Liam Martin gets a pass for being from Temora I think. Nobody from Temora ever let NSW down.

Look on one hand I’m happy that we won’t be missing 3 forwards this week. But you still want to see your guys make it and get rewarded for good form. Since Origin 2 he’s played twice, and run for 193 and 135 metres. His replacement in the extended squad has played once for 40 metres. It’s a genuine question asking what more he has to do.
As a NSW fan I'm glad they didn't pick him, he has been very good most of this year. Might work out well for you guys though, being snubbed will fire him up even more.

Also what the f**k does Horsburgh have to do to get selected? Last 3 games he’s run for 193m, 135m and 122m, while also being top or near top tackler with very few errors.

But I guess form doesn’t actually matter - it’s who you play for.

The Crying Ranga would be baited far too easily is what I guess The Grub is thinking.

The biggest threat to the romance of Origin is a sustained run of NSW dominance. QLD playing stocks are pretty low at the moment hence some of the players named in the squad. Origin frankly only really works as a concept when QLD are winning and the NSW selectors keep shooting themselves in the foot. You pick your best half and best five eighth , not your 2 best halves and play one of them at five eighth ( referencing Cleary and Moses )

Exactly. Qld won 8 straight (as they love to remind us whenever they lose a game/ series these days) but interest from the NSW public and commercial success didn't wane one bit. As demoralising as it was for the playing group at the time, if anything it galvanised the NSW support. Blatchy's Blues was literally a single bay at the stadium in 2005, by 2014 it was the the whole end (upper and lower tier) of the stadium.

We either have to accept a time will come where NSW have the quality and depth that Qld had during their decade of dominance, and let it play out, OR tinker with the rules and have games 'managed' to keep some semblance of competitiveness, at the expense of the integrity of the entire series.

Personally I think the sooner the boomers are gone and take their narratives about what is/ isn't Origin with them, the better...

I'm guessing its Corey's Isaiah Yeo wannabe bullshit he pulls out in games that Slater is worried about. I don't think he would do it in Origin though, he would just follow instructions.

lol

I remember back in 2018 after Ponga's debut Lockyer is doing his post game interviews with Ponga. Lockyer asks Ponga the cliche "Origin football is tough isn't it" question and Ponga responds with something like "Not really actually"

Lockyer gives an awkward smile and tries to wrap it up asap as he knows all the old blokes that shared the same ground as Artie are going to be furious at an 18 year old telling everyone it's easy

Whilst I want QLD to win, quite frankly I'm looking forward to it all being over so we can get back to the premiership.

For me, Origin has lost its lustre. Just doesn't have the same thrill or sensation it once had. If I were a player, I'd take a single premiership win over three Origin series wins in a career, for sure.

Papa and Slater played together during the Maroon tide, so he ticks the who you know box.
Don’t forget, Papa retired in the first place because he got word Slater was going to drop him.

With very few exceptions, Queensland-based Raiders have no chance with Slater in charge.
