2025 Squad List

Yes, every year they say in 2 years we will have a huge war chest to make big moves in recruitment.
I read we had a $4.5m war chest to spend on next season. Whether we do or not we sure as hell have nothing in the way of quality to spend it on. One knock back after the other.

The spending for 2025 started already

ie they take off who was leaving
Then who is not contracted for 2025
Then that war chest looks big every time lol

JDB
Cook
Sloan
Sele
Luc
RFM
Tui
etc

Is this our best guess for our 6 x 2025 Supp Players

NickT

Ackers

Buchanan

Williams

Halangahu

king togia

an obvious players that should be on a TT or the supp list is Ryan Hutchinson and Daniel Meafou who believe it or not is still only 17yrs old (18yrs old in October). Daniel captained the Illawarra SG Ball team this season and was player of the year - sadly did his ACL last couple of games.

In the games I watched in SG Ball I felt that Hutchinson jumped ahead of Ackers by quite a way. Hutchison could be a year older? And Ackers did not seem as fit / injured a bit maybe ?

o Ackers has been injured all year though so I dont think we could judge him yet.. he must have something to have gotten the development deal for 2024.. but I think he has strong competition now... so he needs to be switched on.

o Meafou also injured, and being a year younger this has sort of given us some breathing space on his contract, we can get a look at him next year.. I expect that Steelers side to be a lot more competitive with Reed/Fitzgibbon, Meafou, maybe those other forwards like Amones, Treweek.. not sure if Buchanan plays.. and not sure on Kirk and Borg.. but pretty sure most of those kids played a year young this year...

o Hutchinson im not sure how old he is.. I liked him also.. but didnt seem to demand Flegg selection.. not sure how old he is.. if hes young then sweet, we get to watch him next year.

o Tom Kirk is the other one who re-signed last week and may well push Williams yet

o Mason Phillips another one to watch, Weatherill im not sure if hes HM or SG he just extended.. Random mentioned Futialo as a prop to watch.. im sure there are so many we dont even know about.. pretty exciting stuff!

but no idea who the final 6 dev spots will be, im not sure if they would announce them all at the end of the Flegg season or wait for pre-season, I've seen some assumed names, but I dunno if that stuff is locked in yet.

So, let's assume RCG is signed, then our top 30 is complete for 2025.

To accommodate anyone else there would have to be requests to leave, ie: break contract.
Bird, has activated his option tor '25, however, I feel he is the most likely to formally request a release.
Both Cake and Rava have long term contracts with us, somehow I can't see them "looking" too hard elsewhere, unless someone wants to throw ridiculous money at them, and given their performances over the last couple of weeks in the shop windows, I can't imagine a recruitment manager here, or the UK, wanting to do that. I have feeling they will both be here in '25.
As for Hunt, any nibble from any club, we should respond favourably, and let him go. The sooner the better as we need a new direction, captain and playmaker. Wishart maybe the answer, but the question remains on who wants Hunt at 35yrs old, at top $$, with again a very poor "shop-window" performance against the Eels?

A lot of activity won't happen until Nov in any case.

What about a 1 year swap with Bronco's for Reynolds..Cookie could give him a buzz… brings him back to Sydney.
Then from 2026 he coaches LKT and Wishart as the halves pairing for the future…

Certainly a possibility, however, Reynolds is becoming too injury prone these days. This season alone he has only played, to date, 12 games. That's not what you want from your 7, and definitely not as we have no real back-up 7.
The Roosters may dangle a carrot seeing Walker will miss the majority of '25, and their back-up halves are still in the learning phase.

Hunt would be a very good option for a lot of clubs but only as a 9. No club would want him as a 7, only Saints are stupid enough to let him dictate where he plays.

Would love Wishart to join Saints. Should never have been aloud to go.

You do know they signed Chad Townsend...

Reynolds to Sydney <==> Hunt to QLD, could be feasible if both clubs want that player off their books.. both have 1yr remaining, maybe 2 absolute most.. so its a fair exchange... I just personally dont know why the broncos would want their captain gone without a better one available.. they do have good young 7s but not at that level.

A little earlier than last year, however, there seems to be plenty of interest in our squad, both in signing and retention, So, this is where we currently stand for 2025:

Signed: (20)
Hunt, Lawrie, Allan, Tuipulotu, F. Molo, Sele, Liddle, Flannagan, Pasifiki-Tonga, Leilua, M. Molo, Ravalawa, Suli, Faitala-Mariner, R. Couchman, Finau, T. Couchman, Fifita, Egan, Stewart.

Options for 2025: (3)
Russell (MO), Brown (CO), Bird (MO)

Unsigned: (10)
Tuitavake, Murdoch-Masila, DeBelin, Sua, Marschke, Mat Feagai, Max Feagai, Tamale, Eisenhuth, Sloan

By Position:
Halves: (2) - Hunt, Flannagan (unsigned 0)
Props/Locks: (8) - Lawrie, F. Molo, Sele, Pasifiki-Tonga, M. Molo, T. Couchman, Fifita, Stewart (unsigned: (3) - Tuitavake, Murdoch-Masila, Debelin)
Edge Forwards: (4) - Leilua, Faitala-Mariner, R. Couchman, Egan (MO: (1) - Russell, unsigned: (2) - Sua, Eisenhuth)
Centres: (1) - Suli (MO: (1) -Bird, unsigned: (2) - Max Feagai, Tamale)
Hookers: (1) - Liddle (unsigned 0)
Wing: (4) - Tuipolotu, Ravalawa, Finau, Allan (unsigned 0)
Fullback: (0) - (unsigned: (2) - Mat Feagai, Sloan)
Utility: (0) - (unsigned (2) - Brown, Marschke)

I think it's too early to include the DS players, as that will change with performances in the lower grades and reflect on who we want to keep etc.

So, from what I can see is that we desperately need:
1: At least 1 specialist half.
2: At least 1 specialist hooker.
3: We are really exposed at fullback (0 signed) and #14 (0 signed), however, I do expect at least 2 of the names mentioned for that position will be re-signed.
4: At least 2 more centres. Tamale can fill 1, if he has the desire to remain with us. Of course there's Bird, and that's a reason why he'll probably get another contract.
5: At least another winger. Again, Tamale can fill that role, but again does he stay with us. There are some very good juniors that could be promoted to the top 30. Many of whom have been mentioned on many threads already. Yes, we were looking at Turuva, but that was a choice of experience over rookie IMO. Missing out on him may be a blessing in disguise.
6: At least 1 experienced, "down and dirty" prop. We are short in experience, and we have "short-statured" props on our books.
7: I think we are ok with edge forwards, and I expect to re-sign Sua (long term) and Eisenhuth (short term).
8: I think we will re-sign both Brown and Marschke as utilities.

So, in conclusion, I think we need to be looking at 3 - 6 new signings for '25.

Excuse if I have missed someone, or "arsed-up' any positions.
Bird looks to be interested in moving to the Tigers. I only hope that some of our other NRL squad would also take the opportunity to move on; Lawrie, Sloan, and Ravalawa come to mind. So I'm hoping we will have the space to recruit some and lose some:
Run-on 13
1. Tedesco
2. Allen
3. Suli
4. Holmes
5. Tuipulotu
6. Wishart
7. Reynolds
8. RCG
9. Cook
10. Thompson
11. Leilua
12. Su'A
13. De Belin

Bench
14. Liddle
15. F Molo
16. T Couchman
17. R Couchman

Spine
Tedesco
Flannagan
Reynolds
Cook

Gone
Hunt - Broncos
Bird - Tigers
Lomax - Eels
Lawrie - Hopefully Tigers
Ravalawa - Hopefully ESL
BMM - Hopefully ESL
Sloan
Brown
Fifita

Wishart Storm won't go anywhere.

You have to include the 30+6 imo, we will be using every one of those slots.. and based on the vague news articles.. we cant be 100% sure which type of contract the young forwards will have.. but either way they can play NRL:

These are the kids I have documented for next year:

Dylan Egan2nd Row
Jacob Halangahu2nd Row
Loko Pasifiki TongaProp
Hamish StewartProp/2ndRow/Lock
Nick Tsougranis2nd Row
Finau LatuProp/13
Corey AckersProp/13

And I am assuming that Coric, Shereb & Muhleisen are all gone.. but its possible Muhleisen is retained if we have noone else.. we do need a hooker..
Cook and Liddle
