You know afl is struggling when nrl is ever beating them on crowds of on free to air

sure. I mean this weekend the AFL had already outdrawn the NRL in attendance without todays matches. (210,942 to 192,688 for the NRL (including todays matches). Not only does this not count 2 AFL matches today, but this also doesnt count tomorrows Easter monday AFL game which will account for every standalone regular season NRL match ever. (and yes, you have a game at Commbank)

I mean this season the AFL is outdrawing the combined record crowds of the NRL and Superleague, but you believe what you want.

AFL 1.895m (not including todays matches) @ 37,917
NRL 1.096m (including todays matches) @ 20,691 - the NRL has played also 3 more matches.
Superleague 451,113 @ 10,741

but yeah crowds show the AFL struggling. ok.

Afl fta ratings are tanking

That was the only place they get decent ratings

Yeah its amazing how funny actual data is.

Not really anything to do with their crowds - which are on track with the record season last year.
It’s been funny seeing the salt from fumblers this weekend in response to the bulldogs crowd

Would’ve thought afl fans would be a bit more confident with their crowd dominance but no they just can’t stand the idea of competition of any form

I was at the doggies game amazing atmosphere. Was offered freebies to the afl today but I passed.

How do you explain the collapse in channel seven afl tv ratings this year

You seem awfully silent on that

Yep everyone knows afl draws a lot bigger crowds than nrl we don’t need a statistician to tell us that. But the defensiveness by fumblefans of leaguies being proud of the bulldogs crowd is just pathetic and laughable.

“But we get that crowd every week” “But we get more fans than nrl and super league combined” etc etc we know.

It’s because they know that stadium attendance is the last metric that they will hold onto to claim ‘dominance’ over nrl - it’s all they have. Nowhere near the growth potential like the nrl has.

what salt? NRl fans rightly point out superior ratings, but apparently its salt when AFL fans do it with crowds.

They are and should be confident in their crowd dominance. Particularly when the "competition" is celebrating record crowds...that are half theirs. But apparently thats not ok to point out either.

The competitions fans seem content to revert back to tv ratings at that point.

TV Ratings wont really be comparable until after this weekend - due to Easter being much earlier last year, but AFL broadcasts are far from collapsing at the moment - and data from Foxtel indicates that any drecrease has probably shifted over there. As of Friday though, VOZ cons+7 data v last year has the AFL up 5.5% on Seven with three less matches shown, leading to a 966k audience shortfall - (one of those matches was an opening round thursday night, and one of the others Easter Monday.)

You may be new to this nrl unlike afl doesn’t aim to maximise crowds

Afl hosts games that overlap to maximise crowds

Nrl host not concurrent games for tv audiences at the cost of crowds

That’s why afl should be crowd dominant

The facr we are seeing nrl beating afl on some crowds but also more importantly on free to air when afl has five metros and rugby league two (and some afl fta games are actually two or three games combined) is a sign that afl is struggling

Now do ratings & attendances combined and tell us what the total audience of each sport is

I think what might be interesting is knowing how much of a contest most games are. From a basic level, and maybe naive, I think the nrl is highly competitive and having the salary cap allows periodic change. This keeps most fans engaged.the stars are being produced every year, and the players are getting paid more and more. So we have a lot of upside.

GC need a half to become competitive - the wallaby guy got injured before the season?

Usually Id agree, but Friday I guess the $10 tickets they literally sold to push a few extra thousand in on Friday dont matter?

Afl hosts games that overlap to maximise crowds

thats true.

Nrl host not concurrent games for tv audiences at the cost of crowds

And thats also true. But even if it wasnt, your crowds arent going to double to where the AFL average is while you play in small stadiums.

That’s why afl should be crowd dominant

The AFL will get 80,000 tomorrow, the NRL might get 1/4 of that. Does that mean I can waffle on about AFL crowds beating NRL crowds?

Those are two different arguments. And neither of them is true.

The NRL is going great, and thats something to be cheered on. But that doesnt mean the AFL is struggling.

That’s low quality trolling

They sold 6k of those ten dollars tickets tops

If anything tickets were too expensive

Either way the gate would’ve been over 2 million dollars which is chump change for an organisation which turns over 170 million

I’ve been telling you for ages afl had maxed out growth whilst nrl has barely started to expand

What we’re seeing with the (falling) afl tv ratings is the clearest evidence of this

And nrl crowds have been setting records even with poor time slots for many games

If afl was forced to copy non overlapping games their crowds would collapse

yeah but they arent and they havent. And the NRL arent forced to except they want the tv money. this argument is utter crap.
Sure it’s relevant

There’s a reason why afl has such big crowds

Nrl is focused on providing maximum value for tv with non overlapping games

And is still getting bigger crowds than afl in some cases

What happens if to afl crowds if they have to have games that don’t overlap and say a 6 pm Friday kick off like nrl

Apples v apples comparison here

So by your logic if the AFL got a bigger TV rating for some games then the NRL should panic given the NRL prioritises TV ratings over gameday crowds.

The reason why the AFL get big crowds is because the state is very small compare to NSW, so my point is NSW is 5 times bigger then Victoria, so it's harder to attract big crowds I mean who wants to travel 6 hours away to watch a game of footy when you could just watch it on the box? No wonder the NRL is the nation's number one code when it comes to TV purposes.
