Hawthorn isnt considered a big Melbourne club, its top of the mid range group though (Cats in here too)
Swans membership and support in Melbourne also not really as much as Sydney (about 20% of Members on past released figures)

Ill tell whatever the data says
But all the complaining from prictorians about the nrl gf rating higher than the fumble final was the excuse that it was between a VIC and QLD team so it was great circumstances for big ratings. I guess same logic doesn’t apply to excuse afl ratings.

Pretty sure you’ve shared multiple times that the Sydney ducks are the most widely supported team in all the land. Shouldn’t that command big ratings in Sydney and everywhere else, if that was truly the case?

there’s always a good excuse when afl numbers aren’t what they should be, and always a reason to downplay good nrl results. We know your story.

On Nielsen demographic surveys maybe but in practical terms the most supported AFL teams are in order:
Collingwood
Adelaide, West Coast
Richmond, Essendon, Carlton
Fremantle
Hawthorn, Geelong, Melbourne
Port Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane
Western Bulldogs, St.Kilda
North Melbourne
Gold Coast, GWS

Raiders games arent normally Thursday prime time either i reckon
There are also plenty of Thursday night games that haven’t rated that high over the last few years. One of the lowest rating nrl fta games was a Thursday night raiders game a few years ago. They don’t get many fta games because they traditionally don’t rate well.

That might be true atm, but back in the day, ch 10 and 9 had no problem putting the Raiders on Friday night footy nearly every week.

Its Roy Morgan, not Nielson.

And we are moving out of the Tv ratings subject aways

In the early 90s? Long time ago since they were the glamour club of the league
That,s why I said back in the day. Give them a top team again and Raiders fans crawl out of everywhere. I grew up 45 mins away from the AÇT. I was a young teen when they came in. They have more supporters than most other fans think.

I didnt make any excuses for grand final ratings, and I was the first to publish them. And did so with no reservations.

Pretty sure you’ve shared multiple times that the Sydney ducks are the most widely supported team in all the land. Shouldn’t that command big ratings in Sydney and everywhere else, if that was truly the case?

No. We all know the supporter ratings on Roy Morgan are basically worthless in determining active or viewing support.

I really dont care what story you think you know, but you stick to your guns i guess. I mean I the odd article myself last year carting the AFL and the admin, and praising the NRL, but sure.

Streaming is far more likely to be used by younger demographics, not the middle-aged to old white blokes who dominate fumbles supporter base.
Oh yeah another excuse why nrl’s streaming numbers are higher than afl - the 9Now streaming app is better / has been around longer. I’ve heard everything! Always an excuse with these fumble flops.

So is Roy Morgan worthless or meaningful which is it? You are contradicting yourself here if it’s basically worthless as you say. Or are you just using whatever data source to suit the argument you are positioning to fit whatever agenda you feel like making in that moment?

Don’t say you post Roy Morgan as it’s independent data and you’re just being objective by sharing it, because you constantly add colour and subjective takes to your content.

Also if I thought something was worthless I wouldn’t be resharing and promoting and giving if more air time, because a post is equivalent to an endorsement.

If you agree it’s worthless then call out fumble fools that point to that directly or indirectly when they stupidly say afl is the most watched sport based on fluff Roy Morgan surveys rather than actual OzTAM tv ratings.

Both the NRL and AFL last night were close, highly entertaining matches between genuine premiership contenders. The only lowlight was the referee bias towards the Broncos in awarding the visitors soft penalties at cruicial moments.

Its not that black and white. I think the Roy Morgan data for leagues where there is 1 or 2 teams is pointless, but I also think that when you have 20 years of data that asks the same question, it provides a sometimes useful insight into the growth of that support.

Posting news and content on a news sharing feed does not equal endorsement and never has. I generally prefer to post the content, and then quote tweet it with thoughts if needed. Im doing something different now that should make that clearer because far too often people assume the comment made with the post is mine instead of it being verbatim from the article.

If you agree it’s worthless then call out fumble fools that point to that directly or indirectly when they stupidly say afl is the most watched sport based on fluff Roy Morgan surveys rather than actual OzTAM tv ratings.

Its worth noting they Are BOTH surveys, Oztam surveys 12,000 people, Roy Morgan surveys 50,000+. I do think the results of both are less than definitive. I also note - As you posted the screenshot - Oztam is owned by broadcasters with a vested interest in the data, Roy Morgan does not have such a conflict.

Oztam ratings are considered the bible by league fans....unless its anything they dont like. Like Reach data which Oztam made the standard in 2023. No one knows wtf Fox is doing to measure ratings any more.

and this is where AFL fans get to say "BuT oUr TVz" right when your crowds are half theres? right? RIGHT? t'was ever thus.
I’m commenting on the fact that any mention of good nrl tv ratings is always followed up by some fumble nuftie going on about crowds. Can see it in this tv ratings thread just one page back. Can see it all over X too. The copium is hilarious.

If you take just one game for example:
Friday night
Nrl - 753, 28k
Afl - 660, 49k

NRL: 80k more watching. That’s without even counting bvod where nrl got double afl so you can actually double this figure to around 150-160k more people watching nrl over afl prime time game. I’m sure if we could do comparison on social engagement for this game nrl would be ahead there too (not bothered to go through social posts to verify but I highly suspect to be the case)

Which is the more popular code again?
