Ok so if we take a scoreline gap of 13+ as a one sided game here’s how the season is tracking (2025)

rd 1
4/8 games one sided ( 4/8)

rd2
5/8 games one sided (5/8)

rd3
4/8 games one sided (3/8)

rd4
4/8 games one sided (4/8)

rd 5
6/8 games one sided (4/8)

total so far
23/40 games one sided or 57.5% ( 2025 20/40 or 50%)

not a lot of difference. What it does show is most rounds half the games will be close (less than 13 points difference) and half wont.

Just use this. Saves you the work.

Warning for you Perth Red. May contain stats from a punting website

2026

2025

Amount of 13+ games has risen from 47.5% to 60%. Amount of games with a 6 point winning margin has decreased from 30% to 17.9%.

Average winning margin has increased to 18.08 from 13.93.

Last year in the same corresponding round we had half the games with a 6 point winning margin or less. This year’s winning margin was 23.14, last year 13.38.

You can isolate whatever numbers you want but they all point to the same thing.

I used the score comparison after round 2, that the hasn't been much change. The rules barely changed.

The interpretation of a blocking when taking a catch has and the hands on the ball change but for quality of the game long term. Both of those should clean up parts of it

So how do you know the games are shit if you ain't watching?

I should have paraphrased and said haven’t been watching much. I watched the back half of the Tigers and Eels match. At least there was some tension and atmosphere.

Look at the scores mate and it doesn’t take much deducing. Those 50-10, 32-0 and 52-18 must have been cracker games.

NRL has rated higher this year with competition from AFL.
The Hawks-Cats Easter Monday thriller was the highest rating daytime game for the year in either code. It should also be taken into account that 84,712 fans were watching the match in person at the MCG.

Hghest *daytime* rating game yes, but not overall. And it would be completely embarassing for the AFL if it didn't rate higher than other 4pm sunday games from either code - being the only fta game on easter monday.

I wish we saw pay TV viewers to see what the eels vs tigers did, as I suspect that game rated socks off on Foxtel.

On Monday, in the 5-6pm pre-news timeslot, the AFL on 7 came 2nd in the ratings. It was beaten by 5000 viewers by the Tipping Point on 9.

You can't compare an average figure for 5-6pm to an average for a three hour block covering 3-6pm. Additionally in Perth the programmes were not in direct competition due to the time difference.

Why? They were head to head in that hour and 5-6pm is more important for networks as it's the news lead-in.

I know you want to think that hundreds of thousands more were watching at 5:30pm than 3:30pm but it's not like masses of people were stuck at work and were denied access. It was a public holiday. If you wanted to watch it, there was really no restriction in turning it on at 3pm.

The only major spike in the ratings would be in the 5 minutes at the end whilst people who despise AFL were waiting for it to be over because they wanted the 7 news.

Tipping Point won that timeslot. Don't tie yourself up in knots trying to debate it with conspiracy theories.

Because without knowing the hour-by-hour breakdowns its impossible to know which program had the highest average over the 5-6pm timeslot.
So no more comparing 3 hour AFL blocks to 2 hour NRL blocks because it's impossible to know! Great! We can stop hearing about fumbleball finally!

And that's not taking into account time differences for Adelaide and Perth.

I had to explain that to you earlier on the other thread about NRL games hypothetically airing on Sunday Night on 10 when you said that NRL would be smashed in Perth and I told you it wouldn't be primetime there.

For the record, it's still a half hour clash with Tipping Point in Adelaide. AFL coverage stopped at 5:30 there.
