Well it says something that's for sure. I take it you dont/wont appreciate the complexity of the sport because;
You were always picked last at school to play cricket, and as such laughed at and made fun of, because of your efforts.
You are very unco-ordinated and were subsequently hit by bouncers every over,
You have red hair and very very white skin,
You are not really australian.
:lol::lol:
Nope to all.
Just don't like the sport(yes it's possible).

Crap crowd?

If we accept the capacity as 25,000, then today's crowd was 84% of capacity.
The same ratio would attract 75,000 at Telstra Stadium.
The crowd was equal to one-sixth of the population of Townsville.
The same ratio in Sydney would equal 666,666.

Watery figures, sure. But today's crowd was our biggest ever crowd for a Sunday game in Townsville.

The only way to attract a bigger crowd would be for the NRL to show some initiative and shift the game to Saturday Night, thereby maximising the crowds for both of their finals.

In fact, if attracting over 17,000 spectators to almost every home game since 2004 is unacceptable, then every team except Brisbane is guilty as charged.

In fact, since 21,000 is the pre-determined 'crap' level, we have had six crap crowds this year. And 29 crap crowds since Murray became coach.

Not bad for a sh*t team with no forwards and two players, and has fluked everything they have ever achieved in their entire history.

Bomber,

No-one (that I can see) is saying that Cowboys crowds are anything other than fantastic, generally.

But, excuses be damned - 21,000 is a poor crowd for a home-town semi final in an RL mad area like North Queensland. It'd be a dissapointing crowd anywhere.

As t-ba suggested earlier on, context is pretty important here - all year there have been dribblers hereabouts more than willing to give it to NSW Team X when they have drawn a bad crowd, and to talk bollocks about how Queenslanders are a cut above. Today's crowd - despite the weather, despite the distances involved, despite the scheduling - goes to show that the criticism can go both ways.

This is rich considering Queenslanders put sh*t on the 50 thousand Eels/Dogs got lost night. Cowboys couldnt even get half that and the weather is no excuse considering it was freezing last night in Sydney so maybe people wouldnt have gone either.

and guess what f@$khead, only 160k people live in townsville, not 5mil, pity you southern homos need to be told this time and time again. Me thinks Ridells fat rolls have been suffocating your brain cells..........

We have more rugby league, rugby union, basketball, soccer and any other sports you wanna mention than Townsville aswell.

I agree with one of the posts above, Cowboys crowds are normally good but this was a piss poor crowd.

our basketball team generally leads the crowd in the NBL. Union=who gives a f@$k along with Mediterranean Descendant ball. So what is ur point??? You Sydney clowns in a city of 5mil could barely crack the 50k mark for 2 of the apparent most "supported" teams, what the chance of being car bombed scare you off????? and you want to have a shot at a region that has barely 250k in a 300km radius.....I"ve heard it all right now.......... It was hot as a (unt on heat today, you southern people have absolutely no idea how hot it was. Lets put it this way it was 25c at 8:25am and 70% humidity when i went for a run for brekky, you were all warned about the geographic dramas and why it would be 4-5k short of being sold out up here and you still want to hang sh*t on us, pffffft, lick my nut$.

I can't believe how childish this thread is. People harassing each other because their towns didn't muster sufficient numbers to a football game. Come on.

i wouldn't have even chimed into this $hit if last nights game actually filled more than 70% of Telstra, as soon as people want to have a shot at us up here, pfffffft, we've shown more loyalty than most teams through the tough times........ even when we sucked more a$$ than Elton John at a birthday party.................

Cheer up beave.

Your boys did it. The crowd could have been bigger, but it isn't the end of the world. You really should relax.

i know Nook, just pi$$es me off when people have a shot at us up here, all and sundry were told there would be dramas getting a crowd to todays game, but yet they still can't see any positives to the afternoons festivities up here that happened today. Very proud of my 2 man band, I mean team though.............

People would be less inclined to have a shot at "you up there" if some of "you up there" weren't so prone to slipping into silly generalities about others.

But congrats to the Cows, can't knock what is happening on the field.

Congrats to both sets of supporters. Record crowd for a Sunday afternoon at DFS, second largest finals crowd ever in Sydney. Good stuff. Let's focus on next weeks footy. Close the thread.

everyone should know that QLD is the rl centre of the universe. As todays crowd, and saturday's crow to the QLD Cup will show.

See, I think you're misinterpreting all of this. Qld isn't RL heartland - BRISBANE is!

Townsville is 550km further away from South-East Qld than Newcastle is... I can't believe you'd lump south-east and north Qld together!

Now Miccle, you're talking about New South Wankers there. They're as ignorant as they are arrogant.

I can understand why the crowd would be down, given the circumstances.

What annoys me is that the NRL has given the Cowboys special consideration in their decisions to schedule all the Cowboys home matches in a time slot that allows North QLD to draw the best crowd, while the same luxury has not been afforded to clubs like Canberra which have repeatedly requested more Sunday afternoon matches to avoid the below zero Canberra nights.

But while the NRL has accommodated the Cowboys they haven't extended the same treatment to Canberra who regularly receive Saturday night crowds, off to the detriment of their attendances.

So perhaps North Queensland fans could be more understanding of extenuating circumstances that often prevent larger crowds in places like Sydney, Canberra, etc.
There is no doubt in my mind that *all* Canberra home games should be scheduled for Sunday afternoons. As should Auckland and Melbourne games with the balance evenly split between the Sydney teams. I also have no doubt that the situation would be improved if we stuck to two games on Saturday nights and guaranteed three on Sunday afternoons (at least one in Sydney and at least one outside Sydney). But that'd just make too much sense for the NRL and the television dictated scheduling they continue to contractually lock themselves into.

But don't begrudge other teams their good fortune in getting those scheduling breaks. Setting out to deliberately hold the game back where it is already able to exceed doesn't help anyone except rival codes. The goal here must be to get Canberra those same breaks (and every other team the breaks they need to be as successful as they can), not to drag NQ back to the pack.

Leigh.

Shame such a tiny percentage of people can be arsed turning up for club fixtures in the RL heatland. ;-)

But seriously, when there's a need to expunge the statewide inferiority complex towards Southerners, you turn up in droves.
