Pace is certainly pretty useful
4/174 until Clarke and Bailey got it back together. We lost our 8th wicket at over 300 runs later. Being bowled out on day 1 or early day 2 for any score in the 200's would have been a disaster.
'could' have been a disaster no doubt. but it wasnt and in the end our 1 & 3 made solid contributions. 4/174 sounds bad but from memory we had 2 batters (Bailey and Clarke) at the crease on basically no runs. it was just the timing of the wickets. Like i said, Solid Contribution from everyone bar Warner and Smith.
to say our top order failed when warner got 29 and smith (who is 3rd drop/middle order) was bowled for 6 is setting the standards abit too high.
