Just watching the Aus-RSA test in 94...

How bad was the hometown umpiring back then? Aussies getting caught stonedead plumb lbw and the umpire's just like "yeah nah, probs not aye".

No doubt it would've been worse on the subcontinent. I know you couldn't get Miandad out lbw in Pakistan.

Yep we were pretty bad

It was shocking pretty much everywhere - England had the bet umpires by a long way - couldn't get Greg Chappell out lbw in Australia either...

Which I suspect goes a long way towards countering the advantage modern batsmen have - better pitches generally, bigger and better bats, shorter boundaries.

Its raining so JJ and Tommy look to the past for whinging material. Solid dedication boys
It was the same everywhere, we had an interesting series here with the Windies where a certain Mr Goodall irritated them... the good thing about him is he isn't Randall...

It's the flat decks that irk me most - that wicket yesterday was a standard 1st day wicket from NZ a generation or two back - Philander is the best on the world atm at bowling on those, but somebody else could have put up a fight

Randall was even worse off the field.

Props to Smith. I've bagged him in the past for not delivering on decks that do a bit, but he showed yesterday he's capable of performing against quality bowling. The other 10 were terrible.

I miss watching Warney bowl. He was a once in a 50-100 year freak and had the personality to boot. It really was prime time viewing.

And now we have Nathan 'elephant man' Lyon... and Warne in the commentary box instead which is barely preferable to a stump up the arse.

Hope it keeps raining, we are about to watch one of the great ODI innings.

We could do with Steve Waugh now
