One of the biggest issues in my view is this whole 'road for pitches' thing. We're just getting players now who can't handle variation, can't handle a bit of moisture in the pitch, who can't defend a wicket until the pitch settles down and they get a good read on it.

I compare players like Chappell, Langer, the Waugh brothers, Dravid, Gavaskar, etc, with what's about now, and the differences are stark.

Make pitches inconsistent again and make players learn!

We need a Rogers type opener to see off that new ball, Burns certainly isn't that. Bancroft is probably the closest to selection but would have been good if he started the season with some runs.

Voges falling off isn't what we needed, got too many passengers as it is.

And seeing Meanie, geez wish we had picked Sayers if we aren't picking Bird. At least we could have seen if he is up to it.

Starc and Haze built up some decent pressure yesterday but it drops away from there.

Mennie is Sids MKII, 130k pies that wont really bother too many at this level, and then on comes Lyon and completely releases all pressure.

Its a shame Cummins is taking so long to get back on track, he can barely get a gig fro the Blues atm, playing for NSW futures and his bowling figures are ordinary.

And for those who say that Warner bats like that and that is his go, well, being irresponsible and letting team mates down is poor form. You dont play a shot like that on a soft pitch first over of the day, this is why he cannot play away from home,he is only good on a road.

Our batsmen really need to spend more time batting on pitches like Hobart. The pitch did a fair bit early but its not an all out for 85 type pitch, Smith showed it can be done and I dont think he even played and missed at anything.

Pretty rough to blame his technique when the ball has decked a bat width into him. Top delivery, would have had a hell of a lot of players in trouble second over of the day

I agree it was a decent nut but I still stand by my point that Burns technique is shit and should not play at this level. A decent batsman would have taken that on the bat, not his off stump.

His front foot goes down the middle of the pitch, not at the ball and his grip is wrong so he cannot play a straight bat, that gap was pretty big for a player at this level.

Rogers panned Burns technique as well on the radio, he's like all the rest have no idea when it moves off the straight. Smith was the only one positive with his feet movement even in defence. it looked quite ugly at times but he was in a good position to hit the ball most of his innings He moves a lot when he was covering his off stump well. Unlike the rest of the side.

Picking a bowler because his supposedly superior batting gives him an advantage, despite being far shitter at the job he's actually supposed to be doing. Huge difference that made, eh.

Cricket Australia: that is the directors, management, selectors, and the support staff for the national team - have lost the f**king plot, completely.
Mennie isn't fit to clean Bird's jizz rag

The first thing I noticed about Mennie is that for a relatively tall bloke he gets very low just when he delivers the ball. This negates any height advantage he might have and he becomes just another skiddy medium fast bowler.
I don't agree on coaches performing total rehauls of a players natural bowling action but this is something that junior and state coaches should be looking at and fixing before it becomes a habit that can't be fixed.

He did bowl some good deliveries but a test class bowler either has to be really quick or really skillful. Mennie is neither.

It really should have been bird or sayers. im not sure if sayers is up to it but i think this would be the perfect test wicket for him to bowl on. the guy can swing the ball and he swings it late.

Either way mennie has failed to get anything out this pitch

Taylor brought up a good point. you cant blame the tail per se but they didnt even look like they wanted to dig in and survive. they were just swinging.

Smith could have scored 80 or even more if a tailender really hung around.

Just watching the Aus-RSA test in 94...

How bad was the hometown umpiring back then? Aussies getting caught stonedead plumb lbw and the umpire's just like "yeah nah, probs not aye".

No doubt it would've been worse on the subcontinent. I know you couldn't get Miandad out lbw in Pakistan.
