He's overrated, for sure.

As an Australian, I have to agree with you and have been saying this about Warner for sometime: Warner has been made to look better with a more powerful bat, batting predominantly on flat pitches and grounds with shorter boundaries. Warner, like Glen Maxwell, is another perfect example of being a product of the T20 generation: when he's on song, all the fancy shots and toys are brilliant to watch, but this is more often than not accompanied too often by inconsistency and getting out because they feel the need to score off every ball.

Had he been playing 20 years ago using bats from that era, batting against bowlers from that era and playing at grounds like Adelaide Oval/WACA/MCG with the fence as the boundary (which in some parts of the ground were 90+ metres from the batting crease), his batting average drops by about 10 runs. All of those shots which just clear the infield circle or just go over the rope for six would either be caught by the players standing on the circle or on the fence. In the 1996/97 season, Younis/Akram/Ambrose/Walsh/Bishop would've gobbled him up for breakfast.

Not so enthralled with the Warner talent bit tbh, but he's safe

I reckon Nevill's for the chop, their solution could be a better bat at 7 - if they bring Mitch Marsh and his levers back at #6 it'll be hysterical - choosing someone young at 5 or 6 is the right move, it's just that Marsh is no good - they need to bite the bullet and introduce the next wave of bats

Starc is great,Smith is good,Warner is decent, the rest are lesbians.

Like what happened with the Singaporean national basketball team about 10 years ago. When they lost some tournament, the entire team was sacked IIRC.

To be fair, if you were to sack the entire Singapore Basketball side every time they didn't win a tournament, you'd be going through players at a ridiculous rate... Harlem Globetrotters they ain't!!!

I go to bed thinking all they need to do is stay in all day tomorrow to salvage some pride.

24 overs and it's all over, this team is broken.

The problem for Australia is that the 'next generation' are overrated flogs.

I typed Nic Maddinson into google and the second option that came up was "Nic Maddinson Instagram".

Maybe that's why he avgs. 38 over 58 first class matches against the like of Joe Mennie. Maybe he's full of himself and already thinks he's great.

Or maybe he's a nice guy but he's just shit. Either way he's probably got an awesome Instagram account though with loads of followers.

The other hope, Cameron Bancroft, avgs. 37 after 44 matches.

Both are 24 and 23 respectively so they're hardly kids anymore.

Where are the 18 and 19 year olds with the talent?

I'm almost starting to feel sorry for the selectors. There is f**k all talent out there.

Even Jake Lehmann. He's 24 but has only played 18 first class matches. How is that possible?

Keep warner, khawaja, smith, starc and hazel wood. Replace the rest with cardboard cutouts and you'd get more runs.

Look at the lack of talent the rest of the nation is producing. NSW would beat the rest of Australia by an innings and 500 runs.

I remember a young bloke they gave a go in the 80's. Took him 27 Tests to get his first ton and his cumulative average was 30 before that ton. Ended up going OK, scored over 10,000 runs and finished with an average of 51.
They don't do this shit anymore. Should've done it with s marsh, Hughes, khawaja etc. just picked them and left them there without fear of being dropped after 1 bad performance. f**ked them all psychologically. At least khawaja is still backing himself and doing his best. Can't comment on what Hughes would've done but Shaun marsh is an absolute basket case who will never realise his potential.
