At the moment, pretty strong disagree. The Irish pace attack is streets ahead and they have a few batsman who ate county veterans so know how to handle swing and seam. The Sri Lankan test averages reflect that they fill their boots on dustbowls and roads and lose their minds on quick decks.
5 years ago yes. Ireland cricket has stagnated since then

Burns better hope he doesn't get a double. The selectors have a habit of dropping people forever after they get a double.

Some might say it's a bit premature but
I'm declaring it:

If SL could carch they'd probably be batting now.
I'd say that should give our bowlers hope, but our catching isn't much better.

Well done Joe Burns. Happy for him. Sure the opposition wasn't great. Still not his fault Finch was picked for India.
Well done to Head as well. Has been threatening to score a hundred, finally got there.

Harris khawaja and Lab would have to be kicking themselves. Khawaja in particular who pretty much has to dropped. For now at least.

Don't see Khawaja playing the Ashes, needs to play County cricket and make a massive amount of shield runs.

This Year?

is calling a draw too early?

to early to call this deck below average to terrible?

I think there's enough in it to get wickets especially with the new ball. If you bowl well, set your field accordingly and take your opportunities it's there to be won. No hope against the better batters though.

Hope we get a super over. It's one game that just needs to go to extra time.

I was going to say earlier that the one thing in Khawaja's favour was that no one had really come out and claimed their spot. Harris has been decent until now but no doubt Burns and Head are in the hot seat for an Ashes spot following this regardless of the pitch or opposition.

I still think both have their issues but runs is what matters especially in difficult situations like the one this morning.

On this I'd have Burns, Harris and Head in the Ashes first test. Add Smith and Warner and that leaves one spot for Patterson, Labs or Khawaja. I can see Patterson and Labs included in the squad.
