Until Lyon it definitely did.

Gary had a period of time where he was worse than Krezja and still first picked. But that's not a complaint per se, although SOK could definitely feel hard done by over that period.
Lyon and SOK were pretty even for a long time but Lyon had more potential which is showing now.

A couple of injuries and carrying on like a d*ck on the drink didn’t help SOK case either.

No it didnt. Which in my eyes is a real shame. Bit of a story..

My team (we play park cricket in the Canterbury Comp) got to train with the Sydney Sixers a few years ago, some prize a clubmate won.

Anyway we rolled down to Drummoyne oval for it, met the guys who were all great, but many were obviously a bit disengaged that they had to bowl to us parkies in the nets.... Guys like Bollinger & Bird et-al soon realised we weren't world beaters but just fellas who loved cricket, so held back. And rightly so. Although Brad Haddin launched a few overs at me with the "dog-thrower stick" with the self-declared aim of branding me in the nets. Great fun...

Anyway SOK couldnt be more involved. He was talking to all my teammates, having a laugh all the way. He bowled to every single one of us, which went well over an hour. Once the session was over, their media manager wrapped it up with a token team photo of all there with the sixers... but afterwards SOK stayed around to chat with all of us for at least another hour.... Genuinely hanging about for a chat while the the others had long gone.

I dont know the guy apart from that day, but he was out an out one of the most genuine sportsmen I've ever met. And I've met a few.

Plenty of stories out there about SOK being a legend.

He's just a bit of a different kind of
bloke who's got a problem on the drink, unfortunately, because that's what people focus on inevitably.

Anyway then point wasn't a SOK vs Lyon one so much as demonstrating that it seems fine for some players to get a free ride in poor form if they've got a snappy nickname and the fans think they're funny

Ah yes the old calls to replace Lyon with sok every test.

How'd that go?

I'm not sure I've ever actually seen you grasp a point.

Is there some form of government disability program for people like you, or is it just a matter of the prolonged wait for Darwinism to catch you?

Lol....you need to lay off the salt mate.

Sorry to disturb your armchair generalship.

You think anyone who disagrees with you hasn't a clue. When in reality it's you.

Mate sorry to break it to us but you're not as hotshit as you think you are even if you captain the division 4 XI.

There were calls for SOK to replace Lyon nearly every test and when SOK did replace him or bowl with him he was fairly underwhelming besides ONE test in India.

I mean tell us again how great the England selectors are again oh head of the evolutionary chain.

Lol. ..

Poor SOK . He just wasn't as good as the GOAT.

Now tell .us again how wonderful the English selectors are.

Christ you're dumb. No wonder Four Corners is such a cesspit.

The Mitchell Starc "Saga" said:
THE MITCHEL STARC SAGA?!

---

I’ll keep this rather brief as – to me – there never was a saga.

He’s a human who had a 9-Test rough patch.

He’s also very fast, very good and very much an auto-selection (and has been all summer, and is for the Ashes).

Here’s why:

---

CAREER:

* 51 Tests:

- Ball: 211 wkts @ 28.2 – ER 3.4, SR 49.9, 11 x 5wi, 2 x 10wm

- Bat: 1,377 runs @ 21.9 – SR 67.1, 9 x 50s

Consider the fact he bowls at up to 155km/h, swings the ball viciously and scores his runs at greater than 4.0 runs per over with the bat.

---

THE “YEAH I ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR POINT, TO A POINT” DISCLAIMER:

* LAST 9 TESTS (before this one completed today):

22 wkts @ 46.7 (ER 3.4, SR 83.7, 0 x 5wi)

That’s miles off what we’d typically expect of him, sure. So sue him…

---

SHORT MEMORY MUST HAVE A…

* THE PREVIOUS 26 TESTS (aka before “the slump”):

129 wkts @ 23.7 (ER 3.4, SR 41.6, 7 x 5wi, 1 x 10wm)

That’s world class, spans almost 3 years, and is a period of Tests that is almost triple this recent trough.

10 of these Tests are Ashes, 4 were against South Africa, 2 were against India, 3 were against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, and 3 were against NZ …

---

SUM IT UP THEN CSS:

Absolutely, here goes:

51 Tests, cut into quarters (13/13/13/12):

* The First 13: 43 wkts @ 35.3 – ER 3.4, SR 62.3, 2 x 5wi, 0 x 10wm

* The Second 13: 54 wkts @ 25.9 – ER 3.5, SR 44.2, 2 x 5wi, 0 x 10wm

* The Third 13: 70 wkts @ 24.0 – ER 3.3, SR 43.4, 4 x 5wi, 1 x 10wm

* The Final 12: 44 wkts @ 30.8 – ER 3.0, SR 60.8, 3 x 5wi, 1 x 10wm

You’re right, that final 12 isn’t his best (or even his second best). We’ve played many tough foes in that time though, and – elephant in the room – the players have been through quite the microscope of intense scrutiny.

For clarity, Lyon – who everyone refers to less ironically each day as “The GOAT” – has taken 53 wkts @ 35.5 (ER 2.8, SR 75.0, 2 x 5wi) in his last 12 Tests.

---

STARC’S A HOME-TRACK BULLY?

Bollocks:

* Home: 27 Tests – 121 wkts @ 28.0 (ER 3.4, SR 49.5, 5 x 5wi, 1 x 10wm)

* Away: 84 wkts @ 26.8 (ER 3.4, SR 46.9, 6 x 5wi, 1 x 10wm)

* Neutral: 6 wkts @ 53.2 (ER 3.2, SR 100.0)

---

YEAH, UMMM…IN ASIA THEN:

Sure thing:

* 10 Tests – 37 wkts @ 27.9 (ER 3.4, SR 49.2, 3 x 5wi, 1 x 10wm)

So a touch better than his overall career record as it currently stands, a record which is very good…

---

YEAH BUT, YEAH BUT…

Yeah but nothing.

This is a man who turned 29 just 5 days ago.

As above, he’s a super-fast bowler who can swing the ball, averages over 20 with the bat (all whilst scoring at good clip), and whose numbers are very good (his average is better than Stuart Broad’s and around 1 run worse than Jimmy Anderson’s).

Think how fruitful Mitch Johnson’s career was after the age of 29, as a recent example.

---

ENJOY AND DO WELL IN THE ASHES, STARCY!

Get around him fans, you’ll be bored when he’s gone…

---

Love,
CSS.

Some interesting stats there...no doubt padded nicely by beating up on an awful Sri Lanka home and away, and a terrible English side here. Hopefully they only pick him in the right conditions in England, or he will go for plenty.

Boohoo if only SOK had the chances that Lyon had. Had chances on spinning decks and didn't take them.

Hey how good are those England selectors dummy?

If you can't understand a simple point comparing STARC AND LYON despite being guided to it with a neon sign, I don't expect you to understand that England can still lose to the West Indies whilst having a much more appropriate approach to selections than the out of touch morons in charge of our side.

This isn't 4C, where you cheerlead corrupt pollies and everything is considered as binary. It's far too complex for you and your ilk...

Stick to being a sexist f**kwit, that's about the height of your ability to actually discuss cricket

Yeah really loved the way you chucked Starc's figures against a woeful Sri Lanka in. Against India he was complete and utter shite. Maybe that's a bit complex for you

Lol this is worse than 4 corners.

Here a few f**kwits think they know everything because they captain the local division 4 XI.

Lol England's selectors aren't out of touch.....bahahahahahahaha
