I really don't believe the warm up games would be much use. Counties are going to rest key fast bowlers for the championship matches anyway. So that leaves ECB selected teams of fringe players, but to have so many of those games, the counties will protest.
Not even the English top order bar Root look likely, this includes Cook. England batting has been getting by with allrounders for a while now.
If India wants to win in England, it needs to send more players to county cricket in the off season (after the IPL).
And with effectively a 2 day test now, and a 3 day and 1 session in the first, they really need to question the team balance of Hardik, two spinners and just two frontline seamers. (His 3/66 may improve his bowling stats, but it aint much good when Jimmy takes 9/43 and Woakes 4/43).
Pujara has been woeful for Yorkshire, so him struggling in the tests is no surprise at all.
Kohli was meant to play some county this year, but it didn't happen for whatever reason.
I think Shastri is a "yes" man and Kohli, despite being a passionate leader, isn't in the Steve Waugh or Martin Crowe mould of thinking tactics and winning teams. India should be stacking the batting and playing at least 3 frontline seamers.
