AUSTRALIA’S coach Darren Lehmann has accused his side of “not showing up” in the heat of battle after Friday’s record-low score against Sri Lanka.
Lehmann says skipper Steve Smith’s side was given an excellent preparation including two warm-up games in Colombo but out in the middle it has been a different story.
Australia lost last week’s first Test in Kandy by 106 runs in just Sri Lanka’s second win ever against Australia and now in Galle the home side is poised to claim the three-match series.
Smith’s men will resume on 3-25 chasing 413 to win and keep the series alive.
“It’s disappointing, the way we played. Not up to international standard, on that performance today,” Lehmann said.

“We’ve made some poor decisions against some good bowling.
“We’ve got to be better than that if you want to succeed in these conditions. We certainly haven’t been up to standard so far.
“I can’t complain about the preparation from the lads and the work ethic.
“It gets down to the pressure in the middle of a Test match and being able to cope with it. At the moment we haven’t.
“Certainly some blokes have got to have a look at themselves, how they want to go about it in these conditions.

“We’ve talked a good game in the media and in the press, how we want to play, but we’re certainly not showing up at the moment.”
Australia has lost seven Tests in a row in Asia against India (2013), Pakistan (2014) and Sri Lanka, with an eighth loss likely today.
“The results would say we haven’t moved on,” Lehmann said.
“We’ve got to get better. We’ve got to stop the rot.”

Australia’s bowlers were also in Lehmann’s sights, after spinners Nathan Lyon and Jon Holland took 2-80 and 1-69 respectively in Sri Lanka’s second innings of 237.
“Nathan Lyon’s experience has been very good for us over a period of time but his record in the subcontinent is not great,” Lehmann said.
“He has to improve. Holland is playing his first game so he’s going to be a little bit nervous so give him a little bit of lee-way there.”
