Ikuvalu unlucky to miss out, but Bubba’s rock solid performance at the back in those conditions swayed me.

I’ve gotta say I’m fast seeing what Fitz sees in Ikuvalu. He’s impressed the shite out of me every time he’s played.

3-2-1s are way too hard when I can't think of anyone who wasn't great.

3 Nicho - didn't overplay his hand. Led the team around, played what was in front of him, and his kicking game helped the Sharks win the field position battles.

2 Rudolf/Finucane - Yes, I'm giving two points to both these players for the same reason. These guys were dominating and beasts in the middle of the field. For Finucane, it isn't a surprise. Toby was so strong in defence this game - 35 tackles and zero misses. It feels like Toby is really working towards a Finucane standard.

1 Brailey - He is really showing his potential isn't just potential. He is timing when to run extremely well, and his deft little kick into the in goal really shows his awareness on every play. Still working hard in the middle of the field, but he must love not having to have the donut Woods next to him dogging it.

Also special mention to Fifita too. I didn't think much of his performance this game because he didn't make any of those big runs, etc. But his work in the middle in his short time was incredible. He made 24 tackles with no misses in 28 minutes. In comparison, Tolman and Finucane made 29 in 45 and 40 minutes respectively. Not something I would have expected this season.

3 - nicho. What a player. How good is it a big recruit who actually plays well
2 - Toby. Beast. 35/35 tackles 130m after getting bashed on his first hit up
1 - Kennedy. He saved two tries with his body positioning. Last year he wouldn’t have been there.

Sifa was outstanding also

Good calls. The exciting thing with Hynes is that whilst playing well has such a higher ceiling.
Toby has always been willing but loose. The Finucane effect of ruthless efficiency seems to be rubbing off. Kennedy was simply outstanding. His defence in saving the Hunt try was outstanding. He was safe under the high ball in atrocious conditions, strong in contact to make the yards on kick return and did his magic out the back linking perfectly to create tries. A mature and assertive performance. Stark contrast to Sloan who was very timid and ineffectual.

The underrated thing in Ikuvalu's game was his reads of Hunt's kicks. He intentionally left a couple of Hunt's torpedo bombs bounce because he could see that the chase wasn't strong and also torpedo bombs tend to bounce favourably toward the defending team. It was a good example of playing to the conditions and reading what's in front of him.

Huge effort from Sifa to play 80 minutes and he made big metres.

Not only that, he was defensively sound.
I've been fairly dismissive of his value to the side, apart from the occasional big hit or barnstorming run, but if he can keep up that kid of performance week in, week out, he's a massive part of the squad makeup.
Agreed. His defence in the past has been very questionable. Not this season so far.
He obviously is responding to the coaches better.

3 - Nicho
2 - Brails / Kennedy
1 - Talakai

These were the obvious ones that stood out visiually on the small screen I was watching, but I saw an entire forward pack tearing the Stains apart almost right from the start and a backline which plays like a traditional backline, the ball movement all so fluid and on a rainy night too. Happy Days.

FMD....is he still kicking? Gotta be in his 80's surely.
He moved to Melbourne a long time ago. He is a not-so silent assassin reporter for The Storm. Most of his columns in the SMH are basically The Storms vocal chords to Sydney.
His latest passage of play is creating The Dolphins and Bennett as the Devil incarnate himself. I wonder why he wrote that one...
