I hate Anderson and think he is the biggest wanker in cricket but i also think hes bowling alright comparatively to the rest of his team. The facts are he is a middle aged swing bowler. He cant be expected to carry a teams attack in Australia.
This ashes he has taken 12 wickets at 25. He has bowled a ludicrous 130 overs (only lyon has bowled more) and he has the best economy rate out of all the bowlers so when the ball isnt swinging he is at least keeping it tight. He is currently the third best wicket taker for the series.
Ideally england would use him with the new ball and then spells if it looked like the ball was reversing or their was a big crack to hit (he has been by far the most accurate bowler at hitting the crack) but because everyone is terrible a 36 year old bowler is expected to be both their main wicket taker but the guy doing the donkey overs. Anderson is a first class wanker, but I do give him credit for sticking it out this long rather than abandoning ship like many of his mates.
But again I am always underwhelmed on tours like this, how many Ashes series has it been now where England got crunched and he didn’t really bring much to the table. In this series he had that one blistering performance when they were already well behind, was there much else?
You just never saw Darren Gough give up or go anywhere below top gear, out of nowhere he’d break patnerships because he was always at the batsman asking questions. Anderson seems to get to a point where he just shrugs it off.
