Watson came in on a belter and did well, good luck to him. But whats to say Hughes wouldn't be there 80no. Still annoyed that he gets the bullet while Pontings Pet continues to get a game while he struggles to land a ball on the pitch. And Mr Cricket continues to get a game while averaging around 20 for the last 12 months.

He is 34 but not a peep, who remembers the pressure S Waugh was under in the 2002/3 series against the Poms???? He never had a trot like Hussey has had. Was our captain and one of Australia's greatest players. Must be great to be good buddies with the skipper huh?.

Like i said, the wrong guy was dropped for Watson. I agree, it is amazing how little is made of Hussey's poor form. I do have to admit that one of my annoyances with Punter is the way he favours certain players and always gives them the benfit of the doubt. Another case in example that has already been discussed is S.Clarke. The fact that he is yet to be included in the team, when IMO he is still our best quick, when fully fit, is a joke.

Damn i hope Watson can stay healthy for an extended period of time.

I never doubted Watson's talent, but his piss weak body and his temprament yes. He owes Austrlalia cricket big time and it's time to deliver. I wonder how long in the media it will take them to question Hussey's place in the side. If we lose the Ashes something might be said maybe.

Hussey should be dropped and replace by Hughes by the time we get to Australia if Hussey can't perform in this series... Hussey is a yes man and Punter love that...

Has hussey ever got consistent runs at number 4? He is a number 6, bit of an old ball bully I think. That was embarrasing just then it pitched on middle and hes looking to leave. Out two times in a row shouldering arms. Very average.

I'm so glad Mr Suckhole has been behind Hughes during his terrible run of form. Just in case Mr Suckhole ever goes through a bad patch, not that will ever happen :sarcasm: So glad they dropped the 20 year old kid who had two bad innings :?

That was embarrasing.

I wont ridicule him on one ball but Watson getting out first ball of the day today shows why hes probably not an opener. Much easier to come out at 5pm when the wickets had sun on it and its fine and score runs than to come out in the morning when the wickets got some moisture and its overcast. (Same thing happened to Hughes in the tour match).

Anyway, Unless Hussey scores 50+ in the 2nd dig he should go, or at very least be swapped with North.

Ponting passes Border, better batsman maybe but in the grand scheme of Australian cricket he is not a pimple on the great mans arse.

Pretty well summed up, Watson did well yesterday but if he wants to open he will have to be able to keep out the good balls at 10am.

I can't see Hussey being dropped, our other options are Hughes and McDonald. Selectors would look like idiots bringing back Hughes so red line that option. And McDonald is not good enough to bat in the top 6.

I don't even think Watson should be an opener, would like to see him in the middle order. It would be very hard for him to be a test opener and at the same time bowl significant overs in a game.

Jeez if Hussey makes it pass this test without getting dropped, that'll to do me.

That was one of the reasons why I didn't want him as opener. You have an injury prone guy and you want him to open and bowl 15 overs an innings? I don't even remember the last all rounder to do that, Jayasuria is one but he doesn't bowl that many usually and is a spinner and less injury prone.

I just think Hussey cant stay in, and bat 4 at least. He either goes to 6 and North goes to 4 (I wouldnt move clarke, even though its only one position hes stabilising himself as a 5).

Or they bring back hughes and watson and north bat 4 and 6, in whatever order they want.

Its worrying though, who are the really legitimate replacements outside the squad. Im not sold on D.Hussey or Ferguson (yet).

Im gonna quote myself on this one.

One thing thats gonna happen is whoever is in the team in the next test series is going to be there for a while.

Weve just been through a real tough few series vs India, Safrica x 2 and now england. After this series it vows to get easier and I actually have little doubt if Hussey survives to the next series he will last for a lot longer, as i think it will return to normal and substandard attacks will be pounded for the next 2 years until we come up against some good opposition again and the problems of a fair few of our players come out.

Hussey must go he can pack his bags now the useless joker.. Watson is not an opener but he did well yesterday. Hughes will be back in the 4th test you would think. Also Katich is great only one small thing I don't like about him is he doesn't go on and get a big score enough IMO. Looks like it is Clarkey to the rescue again.
