Another bad decision. Missed it by a mile.

And Bresnan with the anti-Watson DRS. Maybe being a night watchman he didn't want to potentially waste a review on himself although surely he would have know if he didn't hit it?

Good day, I'd say.

Meanwhile, at The Oval:

It's getting to the point where I think if you actually do edge it you're more likely to be given not out.

Great to see Australia on top. Clarke superb. A handful of other sturdy innings. A great declaration. It's Australia's to win now. A great first session tomorrow will have England wobbling.

Another great day for Australia, those two wickets were massive. The Poms sending a night watchman in with 30min to go?? :? Negative cricket which will hopefully bite them on the arse.

Just watched the Bresnan dismissal, FMD these umpires are having one of the worst series in recent memory.

Why on earth didn't Bresnan review that??

Nice to see the DRS being used to get rid of the howlers like Broad, Oozie and Breznan.

Because 3rd umpires are extremely reluctant to overturn an umpires decision on an edge. He saw Khawaja not get saved and probably thought it would just be a waste and take away a real batsmans chance at being saved.

Bresnan was very smart not to review that. Yes he missed that but what if the 3rd umpire stuffed that decision up like all the other ones? Then he would have been given out and have wasted a review in the process. He isn't a valuable batsmen to the team so Bresnan actions show that he "did it for the boys".

you really should not be allowed near a key board

The first thing I'd do with DRS is take away the benefit being given to the umpire's decision.

Any review should be judged purely on its merits without taking into consideration the on field umpire's decision.

If you're going to use the tech , back it 100%.

Hawkeye is not 100% accurate, especially predicting the ball's path if it had not hit the pads. If the ball is just clicking the stumps according to hawkeye, that is far from an exact science. They can't go purely with the technology. Makes sense to give the benefit of the doubt to the on field umpire.

You're probably right in that he didn't review because he was nightwatchman, but surely he knew he wasn't out.

Humans aren't 100% accurate either.

But I'd bet more decisions will be correct if you go with Hawkeye over the umpire's.

I'd still have limited reviews.

And besides , you could still use the rule more than 50% of the ball has to be hitting the stumps. But instead that would be the case for all LBW's.

This is the major problem with favouring the umpires decision.

Its extremely difficult to prove a negative when it comes to whether a batsmen hit it or not.

Therefore overturning an umpires decision is going to be very difficult.

It should simply be judged on its merits. Forget the umpires decision .

If all the technology we have , hot spot , snicko ( coming soon) and the microphone can't prove he hit it , then he should be not out.

Weather forecast not looking good

http://uk.weather.com/weather/10day-UKXX0092:1:UK

Today: 50% chance of rain
Tomorrow: 90% chance of rain
Monday: 90% chance of rain

If we do get a 200+ run lead, we will definitely have to enforce the follow-on. We are going to need a very good performance in the first two sessions today to have any chance of winning this test.
