Selectors need to wake up for this game. Hilfy is no one day bowler IMO. Bollinger to get a go and Marsh to open with Paine and shuffle Watson to 4. God the selectors and Punter are clowns..

Paine is gone and I wouldn't want him any lower than opener anyway, he would do a White and slow down the middle of the innings. Can't see us getting much more than 300 with our current lineup.

Your not serious are you?? Watto, Marsh, Punter, White, Hussey are all capable of scoring run a ball hundreds if they pull there finger out. Our batting is fine our bowling let u down in the 2nd ODI. Just need to shuffle the order around. Now with Paine gone i can see Marsh and Watson opening.

Run a ball 100s gets you 300... To get more you need players that can get 150 off 100 balls which only Ponting is capable of. Compare it to our past team where Hayden, Gilly and Symonds can do this. Or compare it to India who have Sehwag, Tendulkar, Dhoni, Yuvrag that can do that.

I know alot of our current players will never be as good as Gilly or Haydos but I think you are underrating some our players TBH. I do think Warner needs to be given a proper crack at opening for Australia in ODI's

I'm not saying our players are not suited to ODIs but you can only have so many guys that at best will score at a SR of 100. I've always been worried about our openers since Hayden left. If we want to go to the next level we need an opener that can get us off to the flyer. Most teams have them:
India - Sehwag, Tendulkar
WI - Gayle, Fletcher
SL - Dilshan and Jayasuriya
NZ - Ryder and at times McCullum
SA - Smith and Gibbs

All these openers have the ability to get their team off to a flyer. Watson did this against Scotland but since then he hasn't come close to produce a knock like that.
Some might say Haddin can do this, Haddin is a good ODI player but hes not one that goes bang from the start, he takes his time to get in just like Watson, Marsh and Paine. As you said Warner or someone similar should be in there for that role.

shuffling the batting order around is not such a big issue

we still need a keeper and atm we dont have one

Gilly definitely still has it, if he has the fitness to play 50 overs is another question. I don't think any of our keepers are really ready.

I'm sure Hussey has kept for us before but I can't remember it. He will be solid, could put down some chances.

Between him and Hartley he was the better choice. We still have the chance to use Hussey as keeper and bring in Henriques.

I highly doubt Punter would want to see Hussey with the gloves on IMO. If Manou doesn't make it in time and only then will Hussey wear the gloves.
Hartley is a better keep and has been in good form but isn't really suited to the ODI format.

Well Ponting is concerned with the balance of the team without Hopes. So if he wants to keep that balance without weakening the batting, then giving Hussey the gloves is the best way. If Hopes is fit and he replaces Marsh then our batting starts to look very thin.

I tend to agree with the post about the strike rate capacity.

White has the capacity to score quickly but hasn't shown the ability to make the weight of runs.

I think we should be persisting with Warner but giving him exposure down the order before establishing him as an opener.

I agree we have too many one paced type batsmen.
