Or at least hire a good fielder as fielding coach. Blewett wasn't exactly a gun fielder, he was good enough but hardly one of our best.

What's Jonty Rhodes up to? He'd be excellent if it were possible

Sounds like we held a tough chance? Pretty unlucky for McCullum given how we have been putting them down recently

Honestly, i dont know if you need a super gun fielder although someone like Jonty would be nice. What I want is accountability from the coaches, administrators and selectors. The players are supposed to be held accountable for their own performances. Players get dropped all the time. You never see the non playing group under pressure.

Did a single person from those groups get the axe after the failure in England ?

The major reason I'd like a really good fielder isn't necessarily their skill level. Not everyone has that and you can't really teach it. But the best fielders have a great attitude towards fielding, and I think for a fielding coach you need someone who can instil that attitude in the players. Someone who really worked hard as a fielder is more likely to hold his players to a higher standard IMO

The same could be said of all the departments, really.

We added Paris to the squad yet Boland is still gets a gig.

What do they see in this guy ?

So why bat first? If your bowling and batting have been equally poor, then why does it matter tactically? Especially when McCullum and Williamson have been lacking runs in the series so far, bowl first and try and get into the middle order. Don't give NZ the minor luxury of knowing what a good score is. It hasn't worked out that way, but it's a reasonable tactic

EDIT great catch, that's a big wicket, maybe it will work out a bit (albeit with more runs than we'd have liked)

I dunno man i think im just speaking nonsense cos i don't have to work today and i wanna see Aus bat cos out bowlers are boring donkeys.

This goes back to my point about nobody outside the playing group is accountable. Fast bowling is extremely hard. I am not opposed to giving a bloke a chance but Boland has always simply been a good state campaigner. Nothing more special than that.

The error has been from the selectors here. He can only bowl as good as he can bowl.

At least they are exciting....they might just fall in a heap.

I get haynetrains point. If you were paying money to watch Australia bowl at the moment you would feel ripped off.

Our selectors have been throwing darts at a board and then refusing to back down from their selections for years, under different selection regimes too. I'm honestly not convinced sacking the lot and starting again would even change anything, because almost every selection panel we've had has given decent runs to players who just weren't up to it. Unless they were spinners, then they couldn't get more than a few games

Good 50. Hopefully he kicks on for a big one. We know he can.

Rhodes, Ponting, Symonds, any of those guys would have been a better choice.

Problem is selectors aren't going to get the arse after we beat the Windies & NZ and then beat India in the ODI's, regardless of selections. The wins are papering over some pretty serious cracks in the system.
