Agree with you that he would've played truckloads of test matches if he had been born at least a decade later.

But, so would several others from that era (born in the 1960s/70s) who either didn't wear the Baggy Green, or only got limited opportunities to wear it despite scoring thousands of runs in Sheffield Shield and County Cricket (back when those two first-class competitions were a high standard).

Besides Hodge, Lehmann, Cox, Siddons, Bevan, Elliott, Love, Di Venuto, Maher, Law immediately come to mind.

Gilchrist had to wait until he was 28 to make his test debut, Mike Hussey at 30.
