Good days cricket really.

NZ will be spewing, as mentioned not just because of the Lyon incident but because of their reaction to it. It's still pretty shocking that wasn't given though. Definitely changed the complexion of the game though.

Hazlewood bowled beautifully today, great to see him step up in the absence of Johnson and Starc from the previous two tests. Rated him for a while and good to see him take control when given the chance.

Disappointing from the Kiwi batsmen. McCullem has had a poor tour, Taylor looked reasonable for a bit. Latham can take away a lot of positive things from this tour but he hasn't quite gone on with any of his good starts, looks a decent player. Guptil sucks.

test really depends on how well NZ dig in tomorrow. Watling and Santner can certainly bat, Watling in partciular (despite also having a poor tour) has generally been very good at international level. If they can bat the first session, kick on a bit in the second they can make a game of it. Australia certainly in front at this stage.

Re the lights - it's certainly a crapshoot when you bat, the lights certainly makes a difference to the flow of the game. But then the toss generally makes cricket a crapshoot anyway, win the toss on certain wickets and provided you bat reasonably you're unlikely to lose - see brisbane, Perth this test.

Foxsports absolutely filled with whinging and OTT headlines about the DRS error. Highly doubt there's much mention about NZ dropping their bundle, though, funnily enough.

Meanwhile:

In Sydney, Shane Watson looked to be in fine touch for Sutherland against Hawkesbury at Glenn McGrath Oval, but the former Australia all-rounder was trapped LBW for 56.

If NZ get ahead by 180 then they have a chance.

I reckon anything over 130 will be tricky for us, over 200 and we are basically no chance

We near early wickets with minimum damage day 3. Hopefully be batting within the hour today

Well I guess NZ have 2 spinners and the fast bowlers will swing the ball.

If you guys thought the TV commentators had a whinge, be grateful you didn't hear Dirk Nannes, he has to be the biggest whinging commentator I have ever heard.

Great spell from Haze, good to see he is improving but Siddle ffs, why was this clown even selected 128k pies is what he has been bowling all year in state cricket and f**k all wickets, what makes teh selectors think he was going to trouble teh kiwis if he cant trouble state teams, clearly picked on his form from a few years ago or his last test in England, time to cut him lose as he is holding us back.

Really not sure what to make of the night test - the wicket is an improvement on the previous test, but perhaps offering a little too much? Particularly at night, with the pink ball. Still, I am a fan of batsmen having to work hard for their runs.

Really disappointed in the DRS decision on Lyon - kind of proves the Indians right - obviously the initial not out decision without DRS was ok-ish gven the lack of sound, but there was a relatively clear deflection - so I can understand the on-field not out, but the players were adamant (rightly) it was out, and for Llong to create a howler is unforgiveable really.

Then doubly disappointed with our we were so affected by it - especially McCullum, certainly no problem with discussing it, but his captaincy etc afterwards was appalling - as it has been for most of this series. He is, imo, the best captain in international cricket, but has been poor in this series. I think the hype of having a very real chance of beating Australia in Australia got to him...

That said, we still have some chance if we can bat for a decent portion of the day

If ever a decision has deserved a whinge it was that one, though. I don't think umpires generally impact a game that much, there's the odd crap decision, something you expect from human error. Yesterdays onfield, for example, sometimes shit happens. McCullems in Brisbane was poor but didn't really effect the match. Khawaja's in Perth he got extremely lucky and that certainly cost NZ runs, but they burnt reviews on frivolous appeals before that.

But to have a system in place for eliminating a howler such as that, using it, seeing pretty clear evidence from two angles of hitting the bat, seeing the ball move off the bat on the front on view, and not give it, is ridiculous. It was an awful decision that, in the context of the match (low scoring, would've had Australia 9/120 odd, still 80 behind) has clearly, clearly impacted on the result. Yep, McCullem afterward let it drift a bit with the spinners, which was poor (partciularly after they eventually got Lyon). Nevill batted really well. Whole game changes there though, Starc wasn't gonna last long (he couldn't do anything against the quicks, and was limping up and down the crease).

It's a really poor decision that simply should not have happened, and has changed the course of the match. Which as a test cricket fan is a shame.

I think we're firm favourites. Kiwi's bat reasonably deep with Bracewell and Craig handy, and Southee able to swing the blade. But they need a very good first session and Australia should be good enough to chase anything 200 or so pretty comfortably (should be).
