Felt like Pakistan were closer than 3-0, but that’s what Australia do…. And obviously feeling like a club team isn’t helpful

Certainly was, they were way more competitive than their last two tours. If they hold their catches more who knows what the series result would be.

Oh and the crowd and weather was fking awesome!
Anyone remember what channel 9 showed on TV during the morning session on the final day of that series deciding test match?

It wasn't cricket that's for sure. $10 for anyone who guesses correctly.

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t on TV for the most part. Ch 9 might of begged CA to broadcast it in Sydney. Or John Howard lol.

I’d been to tests on and off from early 90s in my teens, but the Steve Waugh retirement in 2004, I swore I’d go to SCG test every year at least 1st day. Twenty years straight and go 2-3 days now with my boys and now all their teen mates.
Living on central coast, NBN was always live but coming to Sydney the blackouts pissed me off.
Pretty sure too, Waugh’s retirement ended the cricket blackouts in host cities and from then on, all international matches were live in host city. Probably lead to the end of big ODI crowds (T20 coming too as well).

I could be wrong about all this.

Oi, never dis S.Waugh.

Never back down. Like an Emu or a Roo, cannot walk backwards.

Anyway I hope Pakistan beats India at every opportunity, learn from your tour against the best, catching practice and kick India's arse.

I remember going to Dick Smith to buy some fancy aerial to try to pick up WIN (lived in Liverpool area at the time). Dumb me should’ve just gone to the test.

I went to Steve Waugh's last test in 2004, sad it didnt go the way it planned, Tendulkar and Laxman batted all day it was about 34 degrees. Mind you the bowling attack was without Warne and McGrath, Lee and Gillespie looked injured, MacGill barely turned, the only bloke that looked like getting someone out was Katich.

Go back 12 months earlier and Day 2 was so much better with that last ball 100 in front of a packed house. I wish I was there but still good to watch. I remember when 9 kept saying we will go the news when Waugh gets out or gets his 100, pretty sure it was 6.40pm when they went to the News.

"Welcome back to our NSW and Victoria viewers" Something you dont hear these days. Thank goodness for Fox Cricket.

If anyone thinks the cricket should be back on Nine are kidding themselves. Without Bill, Tony and Richie their commentary is not the same and they would have to flog their TV shows every over.

They have the makings of a good side imo. If they do the 1%ers better they could have easily taken a match in this series. For all the hysteria about them being a poor opponent they held their own just fine.

I went to the final day. Just remember the bloke in front of us giving it to Hayden, Langer, Ponting & Martyn all through the morning session for trying to save the test match. Apparently nobody came to watch them bat.

Yes they certainly did a lot better than what people expected, Babar Azam was the one to watch but didnt do good but Aamar Jamal certainly did well this series, especially in this test and a well deserved player of the match performance.

That bloke is probably the same bloke that absolutely gave it to Stuart MacGill who I think ended up with no wickets and got belted by Dravid. I think it was when Warne was suspended, although I did see him at the test, probably working with Channel 9. Him and McGrath wouldve been the difference in that test.

India got 700 odd and battered for 3 days and at times I thought we would lose the test, Katich got a ton and saved the game from a loss.

Think recent history shows that to win in Australia you need a few batsmen to get stuck in and get big runs/batting time. Bowling just needs to be not medium pace plodders to keep the current Australian team from getting 400+ scores

India did it with Pujara and some decent support
England did it with Cook and plenty of support too

this Pakistan team kept Australian totals down in the 2nd and 3rd tests - but only once got over 300

Medium pace plodders almost won Pakistan 2nd test with swing..

That day was one of the few times channel 9 didnt go to the news.

They kept the coverage on until the last ball when Steve Waugh got his 100.

Your right though they kept saying stand by for the news once Waugh got his 100 or got out.

Its quite funny & incredible to think England actually won that test match but wtf would know all that game is remembered for was Waugh getting a 100 off the last ball of the day 2.

From memory series was 4-0 going into final game: result didn't matter
