Hugh Trumble got 141 in 32 Tests - 4.4 wkts per test.
Lyon, 213 in 57. That's 3.73 wkts per test.
Better still, Trumble's ave was 21.78. Lyon's is/was 32.8.
It wasn't that long ago that when stats were published, the KPI was averages. I remember the 1993 Ashes tour and digesting the results and it was still averages as the top KPI for bats and bowlers. Somewhere, in the past 20 years, runs and wkts became the main KPI.
People also mistaken longevity with greatness. See Tendulkar. Sure, he got 15,921 test runs. Bit he played 200 tests and his average was 53.78.
Greg Chappell played 87 tests and scored 7110 runs. At 53.86. So...you could argue he was better. Or Everton Weekes. 48 tests, 4455 runs at 58.67.
