I’m close to Liverpool and it’s bucketed down all morning.
An hour ago ABC and SEN were saying more rain coming and they both doubted any play today. Don’t wanna trek in but… grrr

If Australia do get on, do they give Khawaja a chance to get 200? Do they just write this Test off?

Definately not.

Australia should declare twice and SA once to set up a thrilling 475 run chase. Its thrilling for one side at least.

It has been absolutely pissing down in Ashfield most of the morning. Clearing slightly now.

The Shield is almost a pointless metric at the moment tbh. Cricket Australia have completely f**ked it.

The major issue I see is that ALL of our domestic comps are being mismanaged. The way the game is these days, I think we're going to see more and more players actually coming in to long form cricket from short form cricket, like we've seen in Pakistan and India and England. Rightly or wrongly that's where the kids are looking.

For starters, if we're serious about the BBL as a competition then we need to stop f**king around. At the moment it's a half baked joke, so the whole point of it is wrecked because no one gives a f**k. We're scheduling the entire summer around the Big Bash but then treated it as a glorified domestic competition without the best players being available. The IPL, PSL, BPL, T20 blast and even the CPL leave it for dead...
Picking test players in short form cricket is dicey to say the least. With the new tv deal coming in from 2024, and the BBL getting reduced from 61 to 43 matches, it is a step in the right direction.

With a reduced BBL, you would think there would be breathing space in the scheduling calendar. In the old days, our shield teams would play tour matches against a visiting test side. You also had the Australian XI game in Hobart.

All of those tour matches are gone, and in it's place is a bloated BBL. Players would get picked on form from the Australian XI game. Now test players are getting selected from BBL or T20 performances.

.And on top of all of that is the lack of variety of the pitches across the country. Drop in pitches are as detrimental as T20 cricket.

Is it any wonder that Australian cricket doesn't have the depth it once had.

This is a tough one for Cummins and I'd imagine he'll get criticised either way by some old-timer from Langers era and the headline will say "SHOCK- Legends Fume as Cummins' makes 'APPALLING' Decision'
