Yeah we definitely need the extra bowling option on a wicket that wouldn't be accepted in Harden for a fifth grade game....the workload on the front liners in a game that'll be lucky to make it to stumps on Saturday is just too much....

I bet they retain Marsh for the next test series as well ahead of Khawaja on 'prior form'.

How must Khawaja be feeling? The knowledge that being the best batsman for the entire home summer is not enough to get a spot ahead of seven other blokes in a series where we can't buy a run.

He'll no doubt open the batting with a quick fire triple Quiney to help us on to our total of 85....

In all seriousness though, no matter the condition's, There's not a single universe in existence where Stonis or Maxxy give us a better chance of winning than Uzzie... Which makes you wonder what the f**k is going on at that selection table

I don't understand the thinking behind producing these poor pitches. There are suggestions that this one might be worse than Pune. As I see it all it achieves is bringing the two teams closer and making the result dependant on the coin toss.

I don't get why they don't just prepare standard pitches and back themselves to out score us.

my guess is that this pitch is so poor, already has footmarks for Ashwin to bowl to, its like a day 4 or 5 day pitch already so thier theory may be to take the toss out of the equation as its already a deteriorated pitch.

Whilst I agree, the innings I've seen Khawaja play on sub continental wickets has done nothing to change my view that he is a bit of a flat track bully.

I don't agree with the "he's hitting them well in the nets" theory, but I would be interested to see if he has done enough to give them confidence that he has improved his subcontinental technique.

Not trying to bag the bloke but trying to give a view on why he's not being selected.

He's not being selected because of the 'flintoff effect'. Australia have been obsessed with picking an allrounder since 2005.

Doesn't matter if they're not up to Zimbabwe grade cricket standard, just as long as they once bowled a few overs at Nanna's on Christmas day and then cracked 50 at the beach against Davo and his mates on Australia day makes them a test allrounder.

Oozie needs to go down the nets and bowl his nude nuts for awhile.

that argument 'could' be valid if he were being left out for batsmen who are known as good players of spin.. or a All rounder that's actually contributing with the ball..

but he isn't

Ussie has had a grand total of 4 tests, three years apart in the subcontinent.

It's not a great sample size to make judgements on.

Not to say his game isnt a little flawed. Even this summer he scored good runs but gets out when set in pretty lazy ways. But he is more likely than Stoin or Maxy I would've thought

Happy to see the Big Show or Stonis come in. It is the best we can do. Prefer Maxwell in these conditions just.

These conditions? As in the extremely bowler-friendly conditions? For a bloke playing his first test in about 3 years? A bloke who averages about 10 in the subcontinent? A reckless slogger playing 6 in an already shaky batting line-up against a side renowned for piling up huge totals at home?

Is this a transcript of the selectors meeting?

Trevor, as great as it is to have you grace us with your presence you really don't need to come in here and justify your selections to us.. In fact we'd prefer it if you spent you valuable time making more informed decisions..

That would be something like this:

Alright fellas, let's pick a team!
-First, let's review tapes of today's net session.
-Now, how's the chat been going? Remember that time Wadey screamed 'Told ya!' in the Pakistan test series? Hahaha, what a character!
-Should we put Khawaja in? Oh wait, we have Maxxxxy! Switch hits! Reverse sweeps! Give me an entertaining 12 off 7 over 110 off 340 balls any day!
-Alright, we've all been here two and a half minutes and I can tell everyone's tired.
-Piss Khawaja off and bring in Maxxxxxy!

So how long till we find out that we've rested Haze and Smiffy and are going to play the trifecta of all rounders instead? seriously though test is two hours away, do they usually confirm it after the toss?

I'm predicting Maxxy.... will concede more runs with the ball for no wickets then he'll make with the bat.... I hope to be proved wrong though
