Just add on to my above old codger rant: I don’t think you need a batting coach as such, more advisor or advisors for the batting group or for each individual batsman that they trust, they don’t have to be part of the coaching set up, just be contacted when needed.

Now I don't want to sound like my great mate and fellow horse blanket aficionado Chappelli but, but what can Di Venuto, a competent first class cricketer, teach test batsmen? How to take guard? Which end of the bat to use? If you're going to have a test batting coach I believe the first qualification is that you've played test cricket.
Might be different for batting but David Saker has shown to be a pretty good bowling coach - though he had a similar career as Di Venuto
I suppose from bowling being maybe not naturally gifted - you have to be a bit smarter with strategy to get wickets, which can make you a good coach
A bit like some of the better rugby league coaches may have had average playing careers probably due to lack of size/speed - but made up for that in smarts of the game

However, my memories of Di Venuto playing in the Australian ODI team was that he wasn't the smartest tactician

listening to McDonald talk gives me no confidence at all

apart from the fact that he is over 3 foot and has hair, he just reminds me of the garden gnome

Di Venuto could play. A very strong FC record. He'd probably be a better than a few blokes who had played test cricket. But he played exclusively in Australia and England, and probably never in India. Maybe we should be looking at employing an Indian batting coach for these tours.

Ok Chapelli

Jokes aside Div would have played 200 Tests if he was born the same day as Steve Smith.

I don't blame Agar. Blind Freddy could see he wasn't up to test cricket. He's not even up to first grade cricket as a bowler.

Only one bald fraud to go.

it really is, its basically an admission that he never should have been there in the first place

Which everyone kind of knew already...

So why did we do it? To not hurt Ashton's feelings and make him feel included?

If we were serious about him being a test cricketer then he should have been dropped after the SCG test and sent to play first class cricket for WA. Instead we brought him on tour for a laugh, didn't play him in any games and then crushed him completely by bringing Kuhnemann in.

Its a farcical decision.

Seems like a clown show atm.

Players like Hazlewood who went over injured in the first and was unavailable now coming home. The narrative around Agar what a shambles and disgrace that was.

Weather or not he was good enough the way he has been humiliated is a disgrace.

CA saying there was nothing wrong with the preparation reinforces there are major problems that are bigger then the players.

The people running the game as are absolutely clueless when it comes to cricket, some of the people making decisions on the game and the team seem absolutely clueless as well. Anyone who thinks our preparation was perfect and wouldn’t change a thing needs to get off the crack pipe. Playing the Big Beat off im sure did our batsman wonders playing on the spin friendly low bouncing decks of India.

CA wouldn't smell a fart if they ever come across one.

They just smell roses.

Who is the high performance manager now Harold Holt.

They had Pat Howard in there for about 7 years which always divided opinion. We had moderate success but also some absolute debacles under his watch.

I am not sure if he loved the limelight but his face always seemed to pop up in the media when shit hit the fan.

I wouldn't know who is in his role now unless it became redundant.

it makes you wonder if he was just taken to India as a net bowler only

Our plans didn't extend past hope Smith, Labs and Usi score a bundle of runs and hope for the best.

As cool as it was for Labs and Smith, to play the BBL it's clear it wasn't the best prep for this test series.
A lot of blame being passed around behind closed doors

The problem is although the media talk India v Australia up the Australian team under McDerp don't see this or any series as a big deal, just another match on the schedule to tick off and forget about.

The attitude was the same after the abysmal t20 WC showing.

Every test, especially, should be seen as cruel to win, not fobbed off as a learning exercise or just one of those things, or part of the process. Your representing Australia ffs, go out and play your cock off every game and f**k the process.

He is in the ODI squad. We play a WC there later this year. So maybe it had something to do with that.

If that was the reasoning its still ridiculous. And if it was then why wasn't Adam Zampa in the squad?
