I think SL can bounce back and square the series 1-1

Will they drop Marsh or Khawaja for Punter?

Will punter be back in time?

I'd be more worried about Harris being fit than the battle between Marsh and Oozie, he's obviously our No 1 wicket taker atm.

Yep, and if Shittle plays and Sri Lanka bat first, that could get very ugly

Harris I fear will become our Shane Bond.

Our by far most effective quick who came to prominence to late and spends more time injured than not.

They will rest Harris for this test, he is to important to us to risk him IMO. Punter will come in most likely for Khawaja. Tough for Khawaja but he will get another shot. I am hoping they play Pattinson or Beer ahead of Siddle. If only Punter would just retire we could get more games into the younger batsmen.

Pattinson is the obvious replacement as well as a future opening bowler,

Siddle's recent form was so bad I dont think he even got a wicket for Australia A in the last tour. I really dont know why he was selected in the squad.

Until Patrick Cummins is ready,& Hazelwood gets himself injury-free,then our bowling depth consists of Dougie,Hilfy & Sidds..

We are going to see massive changes throughout the side over the next 2 years,so i don't expect our results to be overly consistent..

My worry is our batting attack once Ricky & Huss retire..I don't see anything approaching their class on the horizon..:(

They will probably pick Sidds for this test as he is the safest option with the side 1-0 up..

I love the effort & passion that Sidds puts into playing for Australia..If only he had ability to match..

I think Siddle is an unsafe option based on current form, but I'm guessing the selectors wont agree with me

Actually he got 10 wickets in the 3 games at an average of 21.3 with an economy rate of 2.5.

That being said he should have done better seeing as though it was only against Zimbabwe and his form was really poor in the tour match. I'd prefer to see him sent home to play shield cricket rather than in the squad for South Africa because he needs to learn how to bowl a fuller length and a consistent line. He could really learn a lot from Copeland in that respect.

I would like to see James Pattinson get a game but I’m not sure how suited he would be to the pitches over there as he is a genuine swing bowler. Although if he can get some good reverse going later in the match he could be dangerous but I think he will be much more suited to South African wickets.

Harris is by far our best bowler at the moment but I think he should be rested for this test with the short turn around and the simple fact that we can't afford for him to get another long term injury. Also I believe he will terrorise the South Africans with the bowler friendly conditions over there.

Copeland has really impressed me although it is a shame that he doesn't have that extra yard of pace. I don't think that will be as much of an issue in South Africa and on Australian pitches as he should get more seam movement and bounce. Haddin needs to come up to the stumps more to keep the Sri Lankans from walking down the pitch to try and mitigate the danger Copeland creates. Which I don’t think he did often enough throughout the first test.

Clarke has also done a great job with the captaincy in the last 2 tests as well and the aggressiveness of the fields he has set for the bowlers. Billy Mac seems to be doing a good job with the bowlers over all as they are finally bowling to a plan for a change. Hopefully with all the changes to the selectors and coaches things are finally about to turn around.

Siddle is in for Harris and Punter is in for Khawaja... Sooner Punter retires the better for Australian cricket IMO.

Usman Khawaja is the unlucky Australian batsman to drop out for tomorrow's third Test against Sri Lanka while Peter Siddle has been called in to replace an injured Ryan Harris.
Australian captain Michael Clarke and selectors had been left with the task of accommodating the return of Ricky Ponting, who missed the second Test in Kandy to be home for the birth of his daughter.
They also had to find a place for Shaun Marsh, who while standing in for Ponting made 141 on Test debut last week.
Khawaja, as a result, has lost his spot for the final match of the series, which Australia leads 1-0. Ponting will likely return at No.3 while Marsh is set to shift down to No.6 in the batting order.
Harris, meanwhile will not be risked in the capital after picking up a minor hamstring strain in Kandy. The more experienced Siddle was preferred to emerging fellow Victorian James Pattinson.
Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakarra will play his 100th Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground.
Australia: Watson, Hughes, Ponting, Clarke (c), Hussey, Marsh, Haddin, Johnson, Siddle, Copeland, Lyon.
