4 Nations squads

A bit OT but should the 4-nations be expanded to 5-nations so that both a Euro and Pacific qualifier play? Maybe the number of games doesn't work but its just a strange concept to me, that tier 2s only have a chance to be in it every other series

its being replaced with a 8 team "intercontinental cup" in 2019.

possibly made up of the big 3,2 euro,2 pacific and a "world" qualifier

It's interesting.

So far we know (or close to know) that years 2 and 4 will be IC and WC.
So what do they have planned for years 1 and 3? I think the 4N concept should be tweaked rather than scrapped, it's a really good format.

I'd hope for something like
1: 2-round 4 nations
3: Touring year + qualifiers

But I expect something more like
1: Australia sits out the entire thing and Eng plays NZ mid year
3: Half arsed qualifiers with 80% of teams automatic qualifiers, Australia sits out tests again

I really hope it's formatted in such a way that isn't like the World Cup. I have ideas but this isn't the thread for it.

Years 1&3 are tour years for the big 3

And id hope everyone else,in years 1&3,would be trying to qualify for the following years IC or world cup

I would be happy for the 8 quarter final teams from the world cup to play in the intercontinental cup. This can also mean automatic qualification so the other countries can play there world cup qualifers at the same time

I'd rename the 4 nations the Champions Trophy. So it doesn't take away from the prestige of the RLWC,I'd limit it to 6 teams. Those 6 teams would be previous World CHAMPIONS (Aus,NZ & Eng) plus the Euro CHAMPIONS,Pacific Cup CHAMPIONS and the Intercontinental Cup CHAMPIONS.
The qualifying tournaments would be held the year before. The intercontinental Cup would be for all nations outside of Europe & Oceania.

I'd really like to see England compete here. They seem to have a strong pack but question marks over the halves and fullback.

Also has Hardaker signed back with Leeds?

1. Having famously refused to release Anthony Milford to play for Samoa, Wayne Bennett is set to experience the shoe being placed on the other foot over his England captain, Sean O'Loughlin. O'Loughlin overcame a calf injury to play in Wigan's grand final triumph but when he was asked about his Four Nations availability at the post match media conference, coach Shaun Wane jokingly called an end to proceedings. The club reportedly wants O'Loughlin to sit out the tournament. "To be honest, I've not spoken to anyone about that yet" said O'Loughlin. "I've come through the game alright. That will be a conversation I'll have to have with whoever is involved in selection."

Reports in England suggest Wayne Bennett may pick David Gower in the squad. I mean David fricking Gower! Is he serious? Hope these are false rumours because I could honestly name about 20 English forwards better than him!

Reports suggested gower, heighington and mcqueen "were" considered..

Hopefully that means they haven't been selected
