no-one, to suggest a benchmark afte 4 rounds is silly. The only real benchmark, are the ones who are left standing after the first sunday in October.

You could reasonably expect the reigning premiers and world champions to be a benchmark :sarcasm: Shows the quality of our competition, every other team is better than the world champs.

Wait, what's this? A non Rooster supporter saying no one, its too early to tell... Couldn't be. Only us Chooks fans are sour grapes apparntly and say no one 'cos we're sh*t.:sarcasm:

There is no clear benchmark.

Souths are ahead on for and against. Brisbane have been very impressive for the first 3 weeks. Saints last week were great, but round 1?

I feel the eventual benchmark is still warming up. Could be Melbourne, Warriors or Newcastle even.

Given the data so far:
Souths have beaten 3 sides/12 competition points - 2 away
Brisbane have beaten 3 sides/10 competition points - 2 at home
Gold Coast have beaten 3 sides/10 competition points - 2 at home
St George have beaten 3 sides/14 competition points - 2 at home - lost to Melbourne by a point.

So I guess from that data it's Saints followed by Souths.

As I said, the real contender is yet to emerge.

I'd say dragons. But they'll fade like they do every year.

the dragons over the last 5-6 years have been a team that has always had a terrible start to a season. i think this year was the first year since the merger that we won two of our first three games though you can correct me if i am wrong. No team has set themselves apart this year. the dragons have shown great consistency so far probably being the most physically hard team who has a huge focus on great defense being able to get us in position to get the points we need to win

Definitely the Dragons so far. They could still be undefeated if they didn't make such moronic decisions in their first game against the Storm. I knew taking 2 penalty goals when they were on a roll was going to bite them in the ass lol

I voted for the Dragons, and I can guarantee you that is the very first time ever I would answer a question of this nature with my own team. Not that being a round 4 benchmark is worth anything, but it's a damn sight better than 0-4 or 1-3, where we usually are at this time of year. Of the other teams, Souths have done well, but no way they should have lost to Parra, and they needed a get out of jail free card against a depleted Warriors side. The Titans winning 2 in a row, one in Melbourne, sans Prince is highly commendable, and if they get a decent run with injuries (!) they could be the team to beat. Melbourne will come good, too much talent and too good a coach not to. The Broncos will rebound from last week. I pity the Roosters this week - Hunt, Lockyer, Wallace, and Thaiday all had shockers last week, and will be looking to make amends. In Hunt, Hodges, Folau, Lockyer, and Wallace the Broncs have more strikepower than any other team, and providing their forward pack doesn't get dominated too often, they will likely be the benchmark team this year. The Dogs I will comment on when they've had a game or two against tough opposition. The Warriors should be there or there abouts come seasons end. I'm writing off the rest, save perhaps Manly if they can remember that they won the premiership last year.
