You're right, he was dropped prematurely. However, he was picked this series solely because there aren't any other openers around. Fact.

Khawaja could open, or bat at 5 and Hussey open

Why settle for a bloke out of sorts all summer?, when you have a far better solution to stengthen the side?

This is the same mentality why we are picking spin bowlers who average 40-50 per wicket over someone like okeefe who averages under 24 per wicket?? throw common sense down the sewrage drain

I completely understand the hate for Hughes from non-New South Welshman. He's out of form, and looking ordinary.

That said, you don't score two tons against South Africa in the same test if you're sh*thouse. You don't have the first class record he has if you're a mug.

He will score plenty of test runs.

We keep on hearing this but how long can he keep living off that though? As great as those innings were he was a new bloke to the test arena who the opposition knew nothing about. After that it didn't take too long for other teams to work him out and for the most part he's failed since having a hell of a lot more poor digs than the 3 in SA.

He's just not up to it right now and he has a sh*tload of work to do to find out whether he ever will be. You can't live on past glories forever and his credits for a few decent innings should be well and truly gone by now if they aren't already.

The selectors have stuffed Hughes, dropped him when he shouldn't have been and picked him when he is terribly out of form. They have also over coached him, his technique may have been ugly but it was what got him into the side in the first place. As I mentioned should never have been dropped and should never have been forced to change his technique after 2 Test. Fine if after 5 maybe 10 test he gets out due to his technique then change it, but from memory his short ball problem was nothing more than ugly rather than leading to his down fall.

Smith gone.

I rate this kid highly but i can't believe he is being picked as a batsman. So the selectors are telling us he is a better bat than Uzi???? Honestly far to much pressure on a young bloke. At least put him at 7 FFS!!!

Uzi will debut for the 2014/2015 ashes home series, when he is averaging 12.33 in domestic for that season

F**K. maybe this is a good thing. get the english out batting as soon as possible while conditions are really bowling favourable then get runs in the 2nd innings when the pitch calms down a little. still, i think we're pushing it way uphill.
