Half the problem White finds in this situation is Pontings incompetency when it comes to captaincy decisions like the batting powerplay, probably thinks he needs to wait untill they call it, White himself would have called it when he and Huss were going but that chance is gone now

Exactly and taking the batting powerplay earlier takes overs away from the better death bowlers.
