5 things against the Dragons

I suggest you watch the 2nd half of that game again. Ignoring the penalty try - which I was not actually referring to - there were a number of questionable decisions which allowed Melbourne to improve field position and score.

Had those same decisions been made against your team you would also have blown up royally.

The fact remains - it took a controversial game to deny the Dragons a title as a merged entity in their first year, yet people still consider it a choke.

99 a choke?

we did finish 6th that year so being in the grand final was a pretty big achievement in itself. beating the sharks (minor premiers that year) in the preliminary was huge, and we almost had the gf won if it wasn't for a couple of interesting decisions.

in 05 we just came up against a team who was in red hot form after we'd played 2 games in the last month. not much you can do about that, certainly not a choke either.

92,93, 96 we were the underdogs and lucky to be there. 1996 manly is the best defensive team of the modern era and the 92,93 broncos were just epic.

fmd these gronks need to do a bit of research before saying outlandish comments.

Mundine hogged the ball and dropped it over the line

ridiculous comment.

have you ever watched the game?

he had a fair shot at the line and was smashed in a tackle (some would say possibly a little high) and dropped the ball.

if he had've passed it there was no guarantee of a try, and if someone else dropped it everyone would've said why did mundine pass it?

ffs all you non dragons fans really have to stop commenting on things you know nothing about

Oh, I thought you were referring to the penalty try, my apologies.

Nothing controversial about it for mine, you blokes received a royal run in missed forward passes all season.

I would agree though that coming from 6th really couldn't be classified as a choke.

There it is again the tension.

Please don't tell me as a fairrdinkum supporter like you haven't or won't be thinking of your past failures.

Can you imagine how Dean Young and the fans are going to be feeling to be playing another unlosable semi like 2005.

Sharks no all about choking. How many times have they led the comp after 10-12 rounds only to choke. They start getting the jitters that early. At least Dragons manage to get there first.

Who can forget 1988. Biggest choke ever. Minor Premiers Sharks could have been Wooden Spooners given the way they played in the semi's.

are you talking about the way billy boy starved the saints of possession in the last quarter of the game?

it's amazing how he could see knock ons by saints which didn't happen yet he couldn't see all the forward passes by the storm.

the dicknose.

The man should have passed it.

oh well.

Mundine scored 15 tries in 1999 backing his ability. The one in the Grand Final would have been his 16th try. Craig Smith (Melbourne winger) knocked the ball from Choc's arm abouth 8 inches from touch down. It was a great play and a great tackle that saved the try and the game. Craig Smith made two great plays in a grand final. The first was that tackle on Mundine and the second was being knocked unconscious by Ainscough. He hasn't been seen since. He replaced Geyer on the wing who replaced the injured Scott Hill at five-eight.

Mundine did the right thing. He was over the line and Smith flew in from his wing and hit the exact right spot on Choc's arm as he reached to score...........

The worst decision on the day was Harrigan allowing the pass from dummy half from Geyer to Tony Martin. The pass was a metre forward and Mcgregor pleaded with Harrigan, but Hollywood sent him packing. This try was on the back of a tackle on Wishart who leapt for a kick and was unconscious before he hit the ground from a Tawera Nikau high shot in the air. Hollywood gave the storm the feed for a dropped ball instead of a penalty to Saints for a high shot. Tony Martin scored from that set of 6................9 months later, David Waite stated that 3 of the Saints players had broken noses from high shots from Tawera Nikau, all went unpunished, all were very evident to Harrigan, who chose to do nothing about any of them. Nikau, realising that the storm were dead if he didn't do something went on his own one man wrecking mission and got away with murder.

um
you mob were winning 14 nil at half time in the GF....do some research before you try to play with the big boys.

Ummm...do some better research mate, I said you guys choked in the Grand Final qualifier against us. 8-0 up at half time, and you had been the best team all year...then lose the second half 24-0, the ultimate choke right there if you ask me.
Don't play with the big boys if you wont accept facts mate.

14 nil is more than 8 nil.

so what is your point?

I am not disputing the sharks choked..we admit it.

the Dragons had the GF in the bag.

I'm just showing how you love to take the spotlight away from the Sharks choke, and love to highlight the fact you think the Dragons choked.

Funny nobody ever likes to bring up the choking effort of the Sharks in the 99 prelim final.
You lost the second half 24-0, that was a massive choke.

I've never heard a Sharks fan admit they choked in 99 until you said it above, in fact I never even hear them talk about it....but they love trying to say Saints choke.

Out of those 15 tries he scored, I especially liked the 3 he scored against the sharkies in the semi. The most dominant performance from a player in the modern era.................No fluke either...the man could play.........

and I disagree, was over the line............a freak tackle from Smith wrecked everything....oh well......

Weren't the sharks minor premiers that year.........no wonder you want to blame Mundine. It makes you feel better, because he tore you a new one in the semi.........
