does no one realise that most fans and players are just enjoying the year and the good footy and the awesome feeling in the team and not really thinking of the GF?

threads like these smack of jealousy.

Summed it up beautifully Kiki.

Have to laugh at all these people talking about chokes in previous year.
And the start of this thread...wtf???? Couldn't even get the dates correct.
Lost all credibility right there in my eyes.

I dont have much against the Dragons they are near perfect but there are two areas that for me are grey.

1. They showed great composure to comeback against the Storm who I felt had the better of the majority of the first half. If this was a preliminary final would they still have that composure?

2. A little picky but I felt they were not ruthless enough last night, comparing them to the Sea Eagles last year, they had the Storm by the throat with 10 to go but they started playing messy football.

Apart from that they looked good.

ME SO HORNBY!

In the past the Dragons have choked. Everyone knows it. But this year they're a different team. They'll be in the grand final no doubt.

Premierships aren't won in Round 20. Some of their fans need to realise this. They get too ahead of themselves (not all of them, just a few.) but I can't blame them for being so confident.

As a Bulldogs fan I'm extremely confident. For me the year is already a huge huge success. The club has rebuilt so well in just 12 months and we are now second on the ladder. I'm stoked :)

Hopefully it comes down to a Bulldogs/Dragons grand final. That would be so epic.[/QUOTE]

Imagine the atmosphere if it comes down to these two teams. We have arguably the biggest rivalry of recent years.

Exactly. I have had so much enjoyment from this year alone I am more than satisfied. If they happen to go further in October that would be the icing on the cake.

If they don't, I will still be very grateful for what has been a tremendous year in which we have seen the team and the individuals improve and exceed all of our expectations.

the atmopshere at a Dragons/Dogs GF would be insane! The crowd would easily top 84,000. (capacity is 85,000)

'they're going to choke' thread # 3986.

1987, 1993, 1996, 1999, 2005 (Correct my dates if wrong)
Your dates are wrong.

I'm not saying the Dragons can't win the comp, they have Wayne Bennett.
And the inevitable, 'Saints didn't win it, Bennett did' threads.

Each way bet.

However that is some serious baggage to carry.
Yes, the trophy cabinet in St George is awfully heavy.

The fans hopes, expectations and pressure could really way the team down.
Ah, so the fans are to blame.

Please show us a quote from any player which backs up your theory that they feel 'weighed down' by fan expectations.

The way the Dragons are going, its fair to say the fans will be expecting a premiership this year.
On the contrary, most Dragons supporters are taking it one game at a time, that is the overwhelming message and you should take it on board.

Sure, plenty are feeling a sense of confidence about the team's performance and I for one am enjoying the ride - there's nothing wrong with that.

What a weight to carry the pressure going into each semi will be immense.
What a silly thread.

Not thinking of the GF come off it, you can feel the tension already.

And other comments about taking one game at a time, give me a break.

This is the Dragons year.......................... or was it 2005, 1999, 1996, etc.

Face the facts, accept it, don't BS yourselves.

Accept the expectations.

Ask Trent Barrett if he didn't think the fans were unreasonable.

He couldn't cope anymore.

A large proportion of dragons fans are ruthless

I partly disagree - it's when the fans start to get cocky (at least the team's performances can back them up in this instance) and start believing their team is indesctructable and that they will never be able to lose again this year etc that threads like this start popping out.

it's really not a thought process unique to one team though, every successful team does it... I do find it a tad hypocritical that some Dragons' supporters were highly critical of Storms' fans cockiness during their glory period (2006 - 2008) yet are demonstrating the exact same mentality now that their team is reaching that position.

There it is again the tension.

Please don't tell me as a fairrdinkum supporter like you haven't or won't be thinking of your past failures.

Can you imagine how Dean Young and the fans are going to be feeling to be playing another unlosable semi like 2005.

I'm still unsure if where this is displayed TBH. Apart form a couple of trolls I think you will find Dragons' supporters are anything but cocky and are just enjoying the ride.

Apart from the inevitable pre game banter with opposition fans that is, but that is normal and all part of the game.

I believe the Dogs will choke well an truly before the Semis.
Their bitching whining coach and fans still go on about the lost game against the Dragons.
To bitch is a sign of mental weakness.

I highly doubt a grand final loss from 10 years ago will hurt the Dragons now, nor will any of the others in earlier years. 2005 maybe, but even that's doubtful, who from that team is still there? Hornby, Cooper, Poore, Creagh, Young.

The Saints side of 2009 is different.

They have a new mentality, a new toughness and they are feeding off the fans' energy, not being suffocated by it.
