5TH ASHES TEST: England v Australia at The Oval Aug 21-25, 2013

Faulkner should be respectful in his first test, I'd have thought - it's only because the Australian team is incredibly weak 1-7 that he got a first, and might get a second - I'd have though shutting up, socring some runs and taking wickets is what he should concentrate on

Yes, Parraboy, apologies, you said it, but I was replying to twizz who intimated that Aust never play that way, which is patently not the case, test cricket is not about all-out aggression, never has been, and that's why I personally love it...

For the record, I think this Australian top order is the worst I can remember, people talk about the Hughes-early Border era, but the likes of Boon, Jones, and Waugh all went on to be fine test cricketers, and those teams also included AB, Wessels, Greg Mathews etc who were classy test cricketers, and they were undone by the greatest fast bowling attack of all time (Windies) and perhaps the cleverest fast bowler of all time in his prime (Hadlee) - this current lot make the NZ top order look good...

but carry on

Sure, why not?

"Australia's next big hope" Jimmy Faulkner suggested its possible to take the remaining 16 wickets on the final day of the series

Hey, I just thought of a career Jimmy should invest himself in

A Comedian!

And The Sydney Fringe Show is on a couple of weeks time at the Seymour Centre, its not too late for Jimmy to get a set in!

Anyway I should stop: because Jimmy- his friends, family and supporters, live in the same country as me, and the possibilities are higher that he'll know where I live and I'll get socked by him and his associates:crazy:

Although having said that, Jimmy's a tasmanite, which means he and his friends would have to swim across just to get me

I love test cricket, & how it creates mountains out of molehill's..

No play yesterday, draw 1000/1 on, yet we can still find stuff to argue about..

I like the fact the Faulkner isn't afraid to try and get under the poms skins, even in his first game..

Much prefer extroverts than wallflowers..i.e HAH..

Ego is not a dirty word for an elite sportsman..

or perhaps they'd like to create that impression so he's in the side when they play next... that could have been the strategy with the dead wicket too, making Watson and Smith look like good test cricketers, briefly

We are not going to beat the poms by showing them too much respect..

These new guys need to show they aren't scared..

all out agression ?

where did I say that, drawing the long bow there

we generally dont bat like the poms did in day 3 and I don't retract that statement and you were banging on about McGrath bowling outside leg stump, I'm not sure how those two situations are related

you may also recall that negative bowling outside the leg stump is now outlawed and who was responsible fort having that rule changed ?

Faulkner needs to STFU. You're playing your first test, how about putting in some big performances before having a go at someone else. This is another of Australian cricket's problems, blokes who have no runs on the board or wickets in the hutch shoot their mouths off about other teams when they should be concentrating on their own performances. Teeny, Scissorhands, Big Show, Starkers, f**kner, these guys need to shut up and put numbers on the board before they open their gobs.

This - seems to be a lot of big talk from some numpties who've been incredibly lucky to represent the greatest cricket nation in the world - quite frankly their performances have been somewhere between embarrassing and underwhelming... they do like pumping their own tyres up tho

Rhino standing up again.

Interesting stat. Ding Dong is clearly the series leading run scorer. Then the next 5 are all Australians.
