Beer actually looks ok, gives the ball more of a rip than Doherty and throws it up a bit more I think.

I like the fact that they can do it. I think if anyone should be able to review decisions it should be the umpires. He no doubt would have thought it was really close at first (And may or may not have called the no ball beforehand if he did not have the technology), but there is no reason to just check any close ball, but when you are going to call a wicket it matters more that it is a legitimate delivery

Great call from Billy Bowden, not sure about it so sent it upstairs to make sure the CORRECT call was made and he was proven right. 3 cheers for billy

i saw the exact same thing happen in one of the SA tests

the commentators checked to see what would happen if an umpire did call no ball and the batsmen was out

they were told the umpire can't refer that even he thinks he might be wrong and a bowler could be dudded of a wicket if the delivery turned out to be legitamate

Poor bastard, wish the umps would call the no ball straight away. FFS.

Problem with that is that you can hardly then go and review the decision. Say he makes a good early no ball call and the batsman has a lash at it. You can't then go back and say oh hang on there was a mm behind the line. The batsman is well entitled to say he played an aggressive shot to a free hit ball that he wouldn't have played if the no ball call hadn't been made.

I think it's good that the umps are checking this. Much better than just making lots of no ball calls. If bowlers don't want to miss wickets due to no balls then land the front foot further back. The Poms don't seem to be having too many problems with it.

It's not even close to a whinge - the correct decision was made.

I'm just wondering in general about the concept of an umpire being able to do that.

It's like a captain deciding not to use a review and the umpire saying "Well you know what, I might just review it anyway".

If it had happened to England instead of Australia - or in the India v SA Test - I'd still have questions over whether it should be allowed.

Anyway, as I said, unforgivable from Beer. Bring back Hauritz.

I don't know if it's ever happened before that Healy talks more sense than Tubby but it's happened.

"Don't bowl No Balls" - exactly.

 for Mark Taylor, at least he's had the ball's to come and out say what he thinks instead of pussyfooting around it.
