That's some Langer-esque dribble mate. The bloke carried his bat at least on one occasion (179* out of 391 v England Adelaide), outscored Pakistan in Perth 2004 (191 & 97 vs 179 & 72), top run scorer in the 2005 Ashes with 391, and showed the best poker face of all time in Hobart 1999.

He may be a shithouse commentator, (from what i've been told, I don't and never have watched CH7 cricket), but you can't say he wasn't a substantial part of the success we had in the 00s and even as a coach, despite some extremely questionable selection decisions.

Don't wanna hear his commentating? $25/month Kayo.

Sometimes i wonder if that Hayden-Langer was really worth it now having to put up with the dynamic duo dribble in the commentary box

Its not like Justin Langer was the difference to that champion team.

He was a gap filler when you had blokes like Ponting, Gilchrist, S Waugh, Warne, McGrath a bloke like Langer got carried in reality.

How many games was he the point of difference in that era.

He never played in any of those champion ODI sides that won world cups.

We could have had Mike Hussey open the batting for 3-4 years before he got picked and Brad Hodge in the middle order and the team results would have stayed the same.
I agree few batsmen in that era were individual difference makers because they were all keeping blokes averaging 50 in Shield out of the team and the depth was always there for the next man up to be good enough. But Langer proved he belonged. You can't fake your average as an opener. You always come out at 0/0. You always have to survive the new ball. You never come in at 2/300 when you know things are easy and the team is cruising. Few men in test cricket have averaged what he did as an opener. But yes I agree a number of others could have done similarly well but that applies to every member of the top and middle order.

I would go as far as saying only Warne, Gilchrist and Mcgrath were irreplaceable.

Langer the better bat overall, Hayden a monster on home wickets like Warner.

But they played their best cricket together as a partnership. From the 2001 Ashes to the 2007 Ashes they went on a pretty good run. The bulk of their test centuries were scored during that period. Made life very easy for our middle order.

India's batting line up is very weak.
4 specialist batsman (2 who are in horrible form and probably past it).
Keeper at 5. Jadeja at 6! Then 2 all rounders, (Reddy has been fine).

One more sleep.

Funny way to get dropped:

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has reportedly “opted out” of the SCG Test in a bizarre end to the selection drama heading into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy finale.

In a tense press conference on Thursday, coach Gautam Gambhir - who had replaced Rohit for the scheduled media event - refused to confirm whether the out-of-form skipper would play in Sydney.

But the Indian Express reported the night before the Test that Rohit would be “rested” for the match, having told his coach and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar of his decision not to play.

The report stated Shubman Gill would take Rohit’s place, batting at three behind KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, with Prasidh Krishna to replace the injured Akash Deep (back).

Bumrah is expected to take the captaincy again.

These days you don't get dropped.

McSweeney: They were looking for diffifent options at the top of the order.

Marsh: Felt like it was time for a freshen up.

Sharma: has opted out of the Sydney test.

Lovely that nobody's feelings get hurt - we had same with Conway, who was having a baby, but surely had to be dropped regardless...

All have one thing in common, they contributed nothing, still harsh on McSweeney imo - that made no sense...
