I thought Hayne was one of the best against the Raiders. I gave him 2 points
At least things happen when he is involved. It appears he doesn't get points in the forum because of the 'expectations' on him. I think he is fantastic.
Ironically, out of mortimer, robson and k keating it is Hayne that looks like he has the most organisational skills. When he slips into first receiver he actually has his outside runners hitting the unders and overs lines.
If mortimer/keating started doing this it would be no joke how much improvement we would see. Offloads, half-breaks and breaks, faster play the balls and ultimately more points on the right side of the scoreboard. Running to the line with options will do wonders for our halves. If it means partnering mateo or smith with either half for the game then so be it.
As an aside, whenever Hayne runs an inside support line off keating or mortimer the defence swarms him. I reckon we should persist with this, instead using hayne as a decoy and turn it outside to a (hopefully) rampaging tahu or mateo.
Currently we are telegraphing when hayne will be chiming in a fullback's traditional role and other teams are lapping it up. We can use the fact that other teams are so focused on jarryd if we can wean ourselves off his brilliance.
I can't help but think that the origin period this year will be an important time for our halves to find their own games. Our team will be near full strength so they will have all the tools they need, except for hayne.
With all said and done, last night was a tremendous improvement and our pack showed they have the skill and determination to muscle up. I always prefer when parra play supposed premiership contenders as they tend to lift (whereas I always cringe when we get an extended run of 'lower tier' teams). Bring on the current flavour of the month in souths.
