I think he just used both those situations as an excuse to make his ego feel better. When you look back at some of his performances last season (when not injured) his head and heart wasn't in it at times. I've read a number of opinions that believe this was going to happen before Dein had left. Throw in the comments that Henry made mid season about Wenger relying to heavy on youth as well. AW would have been p*ssed about that. So there were things brewing...

Henry knows that if Arsenal wanted him to stay they could have knocked back the offer given that he signed on for a further 4 seasons. Sure he could and would have been a sook and said fine I'm not playing, but Arsenal could have put up more of a fight. Fact is, like Vieira and others in the past, Wenger has chose to let them move on a year before their time as opposed to a year after. And he gets it right with the big name players. Sure we would have got more money last season had we let Henry go then, but who was to know he'd have an injury disrupted season? Had he had another top season, we'd have got a lot more (despite him being 30 next month).

At times, you felt that Henry felt he was bigger then the club. Nobody is bigger then Arsenal. It could be argued that Wenger is, but no player. I think TH realises that and knows that AW let him go without a massive fight. Using AW's contract situation and the Dein situation is an excuse for him to feel better. And one for him to the fans saying "it's not my fault I'm going". The guy should have just shut his trap and left. As good as he was for us (one of our greatest) he'll have now left a bad taste in peoples mouths. Especially when Wenger does extend his contract. Not sure about Dein coming back, that would be interesting with him working with the guys who gave him the chop... But as for Wenger, as I've said, he isn't going to leave now when he has his next crop in place in the brand new stadium that he is basically responsible for. He'll want to keep on the job and when Gilles Grimandi comes in as director of football (Deins role) things will be as per normal in the board room.

I'm not sure if anything makes sense there, I just started typing

tbh I still can't understand Henry leaving. The Dein explanation just seems way to weak to be true. People always talk about money, but that's nonsense, he doesn't need money. What exactly would his motivation be for suddenly going to Barcelona? Henry HAS been loyal, that's the thing- 8 seasons, and now suddenly he wants to play for Barca. I honestly just don't get it at all, the more I think about it. I can't fathom that Henry, at 30, suddenly wants to backtrack on all that he has said because...I dunno...he wants to win the Champions League perhaps? But even that doesn't ring true to me.

because henry is a whinging pratt and went to barca because he has a better chance of winning titles ... and henry has said before he wants european success, a bit like a whinging gerrard except they won when he had a hissy fit, arsenal didn't

The only "cynical" explanation is that one- he wants to win a Champions League. Having said that, it's funny he doesn't think he can do it at Arsenal given that, by his own estimation, we wuz robbed against the very team he is going to join just last year!

Also, being a little cynical myself, it actually surprises me that a rich, famous, wildly successful footballer who has already won a World Cup, European Championship, Premierships, FA Cups etc, actually cares so much about winning the one title he doesn't have. Especially given that it will ruin his reputation and legacy with the one club who will always be linked with his name, and that even if Barca do win the CL, Henry will always be perceived as a blow-in who finally gave up and took the easy way out.

outside of arsenal fans he will always be remembered as a pratt, he's a good player but i haven't got an ounce of respect for him, the way he whinged when we knocked arsenal out of the champions league was classic henry, lucio had his number for 179 minutes and 40 seconds and the way he bitched after arsenal lost to barca was just typical of him

Well a striker has signed...

http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?article=474738

Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed with Dinamo Zagreb for the transfer of striker Eduardo Da Silva on a four year contract for an undisclosed fee, subject to a medical.

Da Silva (24), was born in Brazil but moved to Croatia at the age of 15 and took Croatian nationality in 2002. The striker scored the first competitive goal at Emirates Stadium when Arsenal beat Dinamo Zagreb 5-1 on aggregate in last season’s UEFA Champions League Third Qualifying Round.

Eduardo has made 12 appearances for the Croatian national team scoring seven goals, including one of his country’s goals in their 2-0 Euro 2008 Qualifier victory over England in October 2006.

Further details will follow on Arsenal.com.

We welcome Eduardo Da Silva to the Gunners.

Once again an AW signing happens with no media attention beforehand.

Stats - 7 goals in 12 games for Croatia and 73 goals in 100 games for Dinamo Zagreb.

Must have only just happened as I came on too  It's only just hitting all the news feeds. Arsenal.com had it as it happened and now it's being picked up.

Hopefully another of AW's gems :D

This comments indicates Theo will be transforming into a forward as opposed to playing out wide -

"I know I'm quite a high-profile player but I'm just 18, so all I want to do is work hard and try to get more starts for the first team," he said.

"I want to get 10 goals next season and I would like to make 20 or 25 starts. Basically I want to improve every year.

Walcott is training with fellow forward Robin Van Persie as the two look to get some understanding together up front, although Arsene Wenger is still expected to sign a new striker.

"We train with each other every day, so we are only going to get better," he added in the Express.

Skysports on our new man -

http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx...+DEAL&lid=&channel=Football_Home&f=rss&clid=3

Arsenal have announced they have agreed a deal to sign Croatian international striker Eduardo da Silva.

The Dinamo Zagreb star will move to Emirates Stadium for an undisclosed fee, subject to a medical, after agreeing a four-year deal in North London.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was forced into the transfer market by Thierry Henry's decision to join Barcelona, and had been linked with a wide array of players including West Ham's Carlos Tevez and Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins of Newcastle.

However, in keeping with his track record in North London, the Frenchman has pounced for a largely unheralded talent and, coincidentally, the man who scored the first competitive goal at Emirates Stadium in a UEFA Champions League qualifying tie last season.

Da Silva, who moved from Brazil to Croatia at the age of 15, enjoys a prolific record at international level with seven goals from 12 games for his adoptive country, including a header against England in their 2-0 Euro 2008 qualifying defeat in October.

The 24-year-old has six goals in total in the qualifying campaign - three behind top scorer David Healy.

Last season for his club, da Silva scored a remarkable 34 times in 32 games, netting 71 goals in total in 100 appearances for Dinamo before earning a move to the Premier League.

Providing he passes a medical, the Croatian international will compete with Robin van Persie, Emmanuel Adebayor and Nicklas Bendtner for a place in Wenger's attack next season.

Will be interested to know the transfer fee... Bet it's not near as much as we've been rumoured to be off loading on some of these other pretenders :D

AW knows mate :D And 13m for Martins, I'm thinking Da Silva would be nowhere near double figures. Typical Wenger.

I'm excited by his stats though... 7 in 12 for Croatia which includes 6 in Euro qualifying (1 against the poms). 34 in 32 for Dynamo last season, that is impressive! Yes the EPL is a step up, but it's also a step up in class of the players around you which will only help a striker. This guy looks like he can finish off. Keen to see him playing.

Well being croatian i know a fair bit about him....'Dudu' knows how to finish a move off, something that arsenal have struggled with last season.
He isnt the biggest player going around....similar build to saviola, pretty much the same type of player...although can play midfield if needed.
imo, he is a good signing although it will take him a while to get used to the physicallity of the EPL.....with van persie having one of the striker positions counted for....he will be battling it out with abadoyer, Wallcott and bart for the other one.
I still think arsenal need to sign a high profile player, not so much that arsenal really need him but for the fact it will bring some positive to arsenal team mates and fans.
