who cares really, I meen, Unless he used performance enhancing drugs I say let him ruin his body how he wants in his private life. They dont ban players for smoking or drinking so why cocain.

If he chooses to ruin his body thats his problem.

The media is a f**ked up thing in these cases. were are they when a junkie on kings cross station Od's or a man is giving another man head for some heroin. thats right no where. but some footy player takes some coke and his the worst person in the world.
As I said I don't condone drugs at all but I think unless he is taking drugs to enhance his game ad cheating then his personal life is his choice.

1. It is against the law
2. The people paying his wages have the right
3. Cocaine is considered a banned performance enhancing substance.

Smoking and drinking is legal- and have no performance enhancing qualities.

Cocaine is a CLASS A ILLEGAL DRUG.

SWJ, I think the difference here is that these guys are ultimately representing the NRL, the club they paly for and the location of that club. They can't have these representiatives breaking the law as it lowers people's opinion of the game quite highly. Unfortunately, rugby league has a lot of problems with players' socail lives getting out of control and so this sort of action needs to be taken. It is sad that these people's personal lives affect their can affect their career so horribly, but the fact is that the NRL and all of it's franchises can not afford to have people who represent them bringing down the game's reputation. No-one cares about some random bum on the street, he is only representing himself and probaby already has a bad reputation as it is.

Is it though? Or is it just on the banned substances list? I know Marijuana is on the list but it's classed as a performance DEhancer, I would have thought cocaine would be of similar status. If I recall correctly, to be a banned subtance they have to meet 2 of 3 criteria:
1. Have adverse health affects
2. Brings the game into disrepute
3. Gives the athlete a performance advantage.

Cocaine would certainly fit 1 and 2 but I don't have any idea bout 3. This is why cafeine was taken off the banned list, they decided it didn't have any long term health affects or something like that.

Cocaine is listed to have calming like qualities that can put a player's mind more at ease and allow them to feel calmer than usual. It has adverse health effects and is considered to give performance enhancing qualities according to the Australian Sporting X Drug Guide.
