How much money is actually enough?

I find the more I earn, the more things I figure that I need so the basic equation in my life so far has always been that expenses = income and if income rises so too have my expenses.

I wonder at what point you actually sit down and say "ok, I'm earning enough to make me completely happy" The more I get the more I want atm. Besides, the more I earn, the more I seem to upgrade purchases. For instance, back in the days when I earnt a small amount of money, if I needed to buy something I'd settle for the basic model. Nowadays, if I need to buy something I don't settle for the basic, I buy the best that I can afford. The paradox here is that there is always a better model than the one that I buy anyway so do I just keep going up and up as my income increases or is their a point where you say "that model is good enough for me"

It's never. The more you earn the more you want, it just builds up and up and up (unless you know how to control it, which most people don't). This is why people are always wanting that promotion, that better job, that extra 10k/yr etc. it's an addiction, it's built into our culture. It's capitalism. Enjoy it!
