if these oceanians f**k up then ffa should just piss nz off alltogether

its all about money buddy...

but really... there really wasnt much choice in the matter...i mean Townsville....

as if the FFA was ever going to give you hicks up in QLD another team.

You obviously have missed the countless 'Don't be narrow minded' and 'New Zealand deserve to be there' arguments. All of them comprised of inescapable logic and subtle wit.

And don't forget "it is a nice thing to do".

You love your kiwi cousins, really you do. And you love to show us your sensitive side wherever possible I know.

It is appreciated, really it is...

Seriously though (no joke), thank you Australia for letting top class football remain in New Zealand. We know you did not have to, and we do appreciate it.

Games at the Basin would be awesome. A unique venue.

All the same, football is coming to Wellington!

The a-league season runs over summer and they still pl cricket at the basin. It would not work. Good idea though, the Cake Tin is probably a bit big.

Why isn't New Zealand a state of Australia yet? :p

it may as well be, we're taking nz'ers as our own in league and the music scene plus probably more too

Indeed that doesnt surprise me in the least.

Although i think that attitude will change with a local team.Wollongong would be great and should be apart of the a-league and FYI wollongong wolves are very much around there in the state league. If central coast and Newcastle can be popular i think wollongong can be too.

I see it this way in the future.

QLD: 3 teams
NSW: 4 teams
Victoria: 1 team
SA: 1 team
WA: 1 team
ACT: 1 team
NZ: 1 team

or put it in real terms.

Gold Coast
North queensland
Queensland
Wollongong
Central Coast
Newcastle
Sydney
Melbourne
Adelaide
Perth
Canberra
Wellington.

12 team competition by 2011/2012 season.
IMO the A-League should be looking toward a 14 team competition, this allows for a complete home and away fixture over 26 weeks, plus a finals series (the top 5 or 6 teams playoff). Expansion should happen every 4/5 years, 2 teams at a time, so that all clubs have time to adjust to the strain new club(s) bring to a competition.

From what I've read in the papers North QLD, the Gold Coast, Woolongong and Canberra all have an interest in fielding A-League teams.

-- A-League 2020 --

North QLD
QLD (Brisbane) Roar
Gold Coast
---------------------------
Newcastle Jets
Central Coast Mariners
Sydney FC
West Sydney
Woolongong
---------------------------
Canberra
---------------------------
Melbourne Victory
Melbourne Club #2
---------------------------
Adelaide United
---------------------------
Perth Glory
---------------------------
New Zealand

- The above distribution of teams take into account that NSW is the most populous state in Australia, followed by Victoria and Queensland (with QLD to be 2nd most populous within 20 years).

- Sydney, Melbourne and SE-QLD would each be home to two teams, allowing for 2 local derby's each year.

- All New clubs would have rectangular fields to play out of - Dairy Farmers for North QLD, Skilled Park for the Gold Coast, WIN Stadium for Woolongong, Parramatta Stadium for West Sydney, Bruce Stadium for Canberra, and the new Rectangular Stadium for Melbourne Club #2.

I mostly agree, BrisVegas, but I would also add Auckland and Christchurch. I can give you the hot tip; our kiwi friends would lap it up.
