Indeed that doesnt surprise me in the least.

Although i think that attitude will change with a local team.Wollongong would be great and should be apart of the a-league and FYI wollongong wolves are very much around there in the state league.If central coast and Newcastle can be popular i think wollongong can be too.

12 team competition by 2011/2012 season.

IMO the A-League should be looking toward a 14 team competition, this allows for a complete home and away fixture over 26 weeks, plus a finals series (the top 5 or 6 teams playoff). Expansion should happen every 4/5 years, 2 teams at a time, so that all clubs have time to adjust to the strain new club(s) bring to a competition.

From what I've read in the papers North QLD, the Gold Coast, Woolongong and Canberra all have an interest in fielding A-League teams.

- The above distribution of teams take into account that NSW is the most populous state in Australia, followed by Victoria and Queensland (with QLD to be 2nd most populous within 20 years).

- Sydney, Melbourne and SE-QLD would each be home to two teams, allowing for 2 local derby's each year.

- All New clubs would have rectangular fields to play out of - Dairy Farmers for North QLD, Skilled Park for the Gold Coast, WIN Stadium for Woolongong, Parramatta Stadium for West Sydney, Bruce Stadium for Canberra, and the new Rectangular Stadium for Melbourne Club #2.
