A plea to Brian Smith

Please Brian listen to reason and stop your ridiculous strategy of changing the halves combination during a match.

Before round 1 the halves combo must be established and maintained for the entire year (unless of course injury or bad form interupt this).

I do not want to see John Morris at dummy half at all this year.

Does anybody else believe like I do that this tactic has caused us problems in attack over the last few years like I do?

Well they say the halves are the key!

I think it is a bit much to ask that the halves are established prior to Round 1....none of the players up for those spots played there in firsts last year (except for Johnny at various stages of the game).

I do agree that we do need to settle on a combination pretty quickly though.....that's a lot of pressure but it can be helped by the forwards doing their job.

I dont like the idea of swapping halves during the game. But I have a feeling Smithy will do this by using the listed:
6 Morris
7 Marsh
9 Riddell
14 Mateo
Riddell goes off, Mateo to 5/8 and Morris to hooker.

But with the below
6 Morris
7 Smith
9 Riddell
14 Marsh
Riddell goes off and Marsh comes into the hooking role with impact.

You don't necessarily have to move anyone. Mateo could well pack into the scrum at hooker - its no longer a specialist role anymore - leaving Marsh and Morris to play at 6 and 7. Marsh and Riddell will share the acting half role anyway so the only real change is that Morris may play first receiver from time to time. Given Marsh's impact from acting half why stop him getting in there. Mateo can quite easily stand at second receiver if the need arises but in most cases it really should be a forward running onto the ball in that case anyway.

Its not that big a change really when you sit back and look at it.

Thats a good analysis. And yeah it isnt that vital. But Morris IMO doesnt make a good hooker anyways. He passes the ball flat and the forwards barely get any go forward. Much better at Pivot.

I have no problem with players switching around in a game - provided they are well trained and know what to do when it happens.....they are big boys - they should be able to cope.

I think every club switch and rotate during a game depending on the situation. I've seen Freddy feed scrums this year and Willie Mason play five-eight, Girdler has slotted there during a game.

I'm sure there'sbeen heaps more.

But the Roosters don't move Finch to hooker and replace Wing with Flannery. And that is because the Roosters know that the halves need to play the whole game there for cohesion.
