I have 2 of their records albeit on CD.

Paranoid with Paranoid and War pigs...Faith no more's version was why I actually brought it.
Great fuggen song.

...and I have the self titled one although it is some sort of re-mastered Euro thing I got 2nd hand in a flea market in Amsterdam in 2000.

So like I said it sound like blues with the over drive pedal on to me.

Listen to some good dirty blues to know what I mean.

I'd love to know who all these "metalheads" are that dont know Ministry, hell they charted here so there must be a few people who have heard their stuff. I wouldn't label myself that but I do listen to plenty of metal & was getting wasted to the sounds of these guys 10-15 years ago. Jesus Built My Hotrod still randomly starts in my head & then lingers for days now! :lol:

Im talking mainly about the sort of people who regard Whitesnake or Deep Purple as Metal. Pfft.

If so...Pass. I hate that whiny guitar sound. Gimme a HEAVY guitar riff that gives you a headache and makes your ears bleed any day. Well, maybe not that bad...

Thats fair enough OVP. Yes I do agree Ministry are pioneers in their own right, I just disagreed with your claiming of pioneers of Metal as a Whole.

Would you say they are pioneers of the whole Industrial Metal sound?

If you look into a band called Earth, you might find some answers ;-)

You can also put their sound down to Iommi ( spelling? ) missing the top of one of his fingers .
He used a steel thimble which gave them that heavy metalic sound.
So without rreally trying to they created a bit of a niche.
I have also read that they were not into satan worship and all that ...it came about by a couple of promo pics.
The photographer suggested a few crosses and stuff.
Next thing they knew the audience were dressing like the dark prince himself.

I read this in Mojo or guitar magazine..I can't recall which one.

Can't say I've ever met a metalhead who doesn't know who Ministry are. I'd say they pioneered the industrial thing. I saw them a couple of weeks ago actually at a METAL festival and they were so damn heavy, loved it!

This thread was aimed mainly at clowns like Ron Jeremy, those who regard bands like Whitesnake as metal.

Forget it ... im happy you appreciate the True Metal of Ministry and the like. And thats goes for ALL of you who feel the same.

Ministry started out as a disco band. They're not pioneers of metal per se, more like pioneers of industrial metal.

Everyone should own Psalm 69 though, it's one of the most crushing albums ever recorded.
