Aaron Woods - Cronulla Shark

$200-250k out of $850k. That's pretty good for Canterbury. They've got the bulk of an overpaid plodder's pay off their book. Paying $250k for an unseen prop is much better than $850k. Gallen is obviously retiring at the end of season so Sharks were keen to stock up. Woods is overvalued for the next 3 seasons for mine.

Now to the Foran problem. I was hoping the dogs would be in the doldrums for a while, but they've been on the front foot cleaning up the shit Dib, Castle & Hasler left behind. Bullfrogs spawn just as organised, efficient and effective as the old man it seems

If woods is so shit why did the dogs give him $850k?

The contract he signed with the sharks was at a reduced rate. Nowhere near the $850k he reportedly would've earned at Canterbury. Ultimately, it was Woods' decision to take less. The dogs are paying a reported $250k of the new contract which is in the vicinity of $700k. The Sharks robbed the bulldogs blind on this deal and will be paying $450k for a world class front rower about to enter the prime years of his career.

I’m no fan of the pillow, but hey, see how he goes.

Just on those numbers... he took a pay cut to get the deal done. Both dogs and Sharks stood firm. So if the reported $600k is correct, dogs pay your max figure of $250k sharks are paying him $350k.

Good business all round I guess

So why did Woods have to take a pay cut? Is it because he wouldn’t have signed anywhere? You’d think the Bulldogs were entitled to pay the remainder of his value he signed for.

Maybe just to get the hell out of the joint.
The move to the dogs pretty much f**ked his career.

Not sure on the intricacies of the deal but I'd imagine the Dogs will have his 850k wiped from their books moving forward.

Why would he give up a million over the 4 years just to play somewhere else. Doesn't sound believable to me but we will never know

He has played for Aus and NSW
Yet
He has only played 2 finals matches back in 2011.

At 27 a 4 year deal with a club that is imploding with massive salary cap issues could mean he never plays finals footy again.

He will no doubt be on good money in a year or two anyway.

He took a pay cut of $250k a year? Sounds plausible! The guys shown he is a mercenary and its all about the money. But yeh he is happy to drop a guaranteed $250k a year Im sure lol.

As for the Dogs, they signed all these players on these contracts, where they planning to breach the cap or can someone just not add up?

When did he show he was a mercenary ? You mean for the one time he left a club for another. By that line of reasoning every player in the comp who leaves a club just once for more money is a mercenary ?

You don't know what Woods is happy or unhappy with.

On the Dogs. They have a rich and cultured history of cheating amongst other things. I wouldnt put it past them.

How do you know he is purely mercenary. That is your take on things. The Tigers had been under performing for years. Changing clubs was not a daft move plus his best mate Klemmer is at the Dogs. The move made sense when he made it

Re the salary cap. The Dogs were one of the clubs that assumed the cap was rising to $10 million as per the promises made last year during the negotiation process. In the end the cap ended up lower than the Dogs and a couple of others had expected.

The Dogs had signed Woods and Foran expecting they had cap space they didn't have.

As much as most are having a dig at him(me included)he will play finals footy this year. He gets to do what he wanted albeit at a different club.
