The reason why Brooks has played 45 games is because by the time he played 5 games, he was deemed worthy of FG hence he was handed a FG spot (and the Tigers deemed Benji expendable). Hastings and Bird the same, and all are bona fide starters for their teams now. These 3 are all about the same age as Hutch.

Question is, when will Hutch make this transition? We are all still waiting.

Well, it's crunch time for Hutch as Benji has been told his future is not secure for next year. Mary has pretty much laid down the challenge to make that spot his.

If Hutch isn't up to it, we'll have to look elsewhere. It's up to him really.

Forget the 45 games. The point is, in the time Hutch has had to show his wares (and I know he hasn't had a lot of opportunities), guys like Brooks, Bird, Hastings and even Elgey had already proven they were FG calibre.

As mentioned previously, Brooks tore us apart in his debut, Bird practically single handily won a game against the Roosters in his starting debut. Hastings made his debut in a nationally televised, minor premiership deciding game and is now starting half for the Roosters.

They are all about the same age as Hutch. And given Hutch is a junior kangaroo and U20's state captain, you can argue he has similar if not better credentials than the 3 I have mentioned. So like it or not, this is the standard we have to hold him to (especially since we didn't keep Bird).

We've all had a good look at him now and so far there is nothing that shows me he belongs in FG. Unless he follows a similar path to DCE where he needs to play an entire season in reggies, I think there are huge question marks that he is a long term option for us.

Exactly what I would have written....The coaching staff have made some bad calls on who stays and goes ... I just hope Hutch will turn out aces. Comparing Brooks and Hutch, Hutch will be ok with a team that is dominating . Brooks on the other hand can turn a game if his team is behind.

You wanna compare apples and apples, look at their respective first 5 games of first grade. Brooks burst onto the scene, took complete control of the game and even cause a whole lot of overhype, meaning people's expectations of his second season were huge. Hutch metaphorically coughed and spluttered through his first grade opportunities, going from 'not a bad showing' in his first grade to a 'poor showing' in his most recent. And he's shown nothing in NRL or NSW Cup that shows he is ready to make the transition if Mary decides he will invest in the future.

I realise what the thread is about thanks...discussion is about him (Reynolds) singular not possible 1/2s plural...and that's fine as long as it sticks to that and doesn't drag on and on and involve every possible half rumour in the comp... imo that's not healthy to promote those discussions when most are just that rumours .....and as for the door Im entitled to my opinion on here just like you are...so watch it doesn't hit your arse on the way out

Rumour thread mate. While there are players on the market and we have a need there is always going to be speculation and comparisons.

Mate wasnt having a crack at you...but a lot of these players are not even on the market and its news to them.if the threads are drawn out over and over some supporters build their hopes up and when it doesn't happen which is most of the time that's when they become disgruntled with what we have at present...if you know what I mean...I just think that's unhealthy for the club.....

If he did every minor flaw would be pointed out on a regular basis and there'd be calls for the return of some obscure halfback that no-one can really remember but was definitely on a par with Billy Smith.
