Adam Reynolds to Dragons?

Gotta disagree

The guy is playing behind arguably the worst pack of forwards in the comp.

He is a very good young player.

Much better than Hutch I'm afraid

Agree about Brooks. People go on about his defence, but a lot of young halves struggle their first few years. Benji, Soward and even Thurston were all suspect defensively in their early years.

As for a comparison to Hutch - there is no comparison. He's only a few months older and already has 45 FG games and a rookie of the year, despite playing in the worst basket case of a club in the comp.

He tore us a new one in his debut and he'll only get better. Hutch - well we're still waiting?

You don't buy halves for defence. So long as they can kick, lay on tries and control a team who cares if they tackle? Lockyer couldn't tackle for shit. That is why Bennett put Tony Carroll inside him.

Agreed.

But it's the first thing people say when they want to bag Brooks. I think he's a great talent and would love to have him at the Dragons away from the rabble at the Tigers. The kid is only 21 ffs, massive upside there. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Many people disagree however.

Yeah, agree. Could be a good side kick for Widdop.

If we could get him as a pigeon pair with James Tedesco....

Elgey might struggle a bit coming back from a major injury but has talent.

Brooks is a little small but again has a good footy IQ.

Reynolds would be the one but again has had a few injuries to.

Not to stressed on him coming back from injury. Reynolds had knee issues early on his career and overcame them although I would hate for Elgey to turn out to be another Kyle Stanley.

Thats the disappointing thing Kyle had the talent the same can be said for Matty Head both really gifted players who just couldn't shake that curse.

Elgey is contracted until end of this season, however the contract has an option in the players favour. I've heard he's close to extending after his injury & the Titans are keen to see how his early recovery comes along. If it goes as expected they'll offer him good $$ to stay.

I actually rated Elgey above most of the young halves. Thought he had a great game against us and clearly outplayed our more highly fancied halves

But his knee injury worries me a bit.

Yep, it is going to take some $$ to wrestle any quality player from their current clubs grasp.

Rumour thread mate. While there are players on the market and we have a need there is always going to be speculation and comparisons.

well put 45 games into hutch and he'll go alright but my point is the dragons don't because they don't have to tigers bought into the hype and played brooks because they had no other choice sure it's sped up his development but if hutch got the same amount of game time we wouldn't be having this discussion the saints aren't gonna drop Benji or gareth unless they're injured!

Brooks and Hutch are 2 very different players

Brooks has speed, is elusive, very good short kicking game. Had self confidence immediately as did Jack Bird to run the football.

Hutch is a link man, acts as the long range kicker, reads the game and switches play. Usually has good hands and links up players in the attack well. Clearly lacking in confidence, probably because Mary is telling him this is no longer under 20s. The standard and pace of game is much higher. Hutch has outgrown the half back position and is simply too slow to play half now. Passing before the line is ineffective.

Forget the 45 games. The point is, in the time Hutch has had to show his wares (and I know he hasn't had a lot of opportunities), guys like Brooks, Bird, Hastings and even Elgey had already proven they were FG calibre.

As mentioned previously, Brooks tore us apart in his debut, Bird practically single handily won a game against the Roosters in his starting debut. Hastings made his debut in a nationally televised, minor premiership deciding game and is now starting half for the Roosters.

They are all about the same age as Hutch. And given Hutch is a junior kangaroo and U20's state captain, you can argue he has similar if not better credentials than the 3 I have mentioned. So like it or not, this is the standard we have to hold him to (especially since we didn't keep Bird).

We've all had a good look at him now and so far there is nothing that shows me he belongs in FG. Unless he follows a similar path to DCE where he needs to play an entire season in reggies, I think there are huge question marks that he is a long term option for us.
