League player Patrick Vaivai fined over involvement in Brisbane brawl
Former Newcastle Knights rugby league player Patrick Vaivai has been fined $850 for his involvement in a Brisbane brawl and for obstructing a police officer.
He pleaded guilty to one charge of affray and obstructing a police officer in the Brisbane Magistrates Court.
The court heard he was involved in a brawl on Boundary Street in West End last October.
Defence lawyer Nick Hanly told the court Vaivai, 23, was due to play for the Gold Coast Titans this year.
However after the hearing the club issued a statement saying they had no agreement with him.
"Mr Vaivai is not associated with this club, has no agreement with this club and we have made no offer to the player, or his manager, for him to join our squad," the statement said.
Mr Hanly said his client believed he was singled out by security guards while he was drinking because of his size and stature.
He said Vaivai argued with the guards and admitted he should have walked away.
Mr Hanly said Vaivai was co-operating with police when his co-accused started pushing officers.
When the brawl took place, Vaivai had just signed to the Canberra Raiders.
The court heard his contact with the Raiders was torn up as a result of the charges.
Vaivai must also perform 40 hours of community service.
It is "Australia's Game" lol.
Hawthorn's Brad Hill charged with assault after pre-season altercation
Hawthorn's Brad Hill has been charged with assault following an investigation into an incident from January 24.
"Bradley has kept the club informed throughout this entire process. The leadership group has already met on this matter and has decided that no sanction will be applied at this stage," Hawks GM of football operations Chris Fagan said.
"The matter is now before the court and any sanction is in the hands of the judicial system."
Hawthorn said Hill has fully cooperated with police, and informed the club of the incident at the time.
The alleged incident occurred in Narre Warren in Melbourne's south-east, and a 21-year-old man was treated for minor facial injuries.
Fumbleball house certainly had our media in their pockets for sure.
NRL fans whinge like the NRL are victims of some conspiracy.
Our code is just dumb and cannot play the media game very well.
We need to get better at this by, for example, inviting them to participate in our annual awards night currently run by one butt hole faction of the media.
Have a look around this forum and tell me there's no bias against league and for AFL in the media.
Then tell me what "we" are supposed to do beyond pointing it out.
Our code??? Lol you've outed as a Fumbleball troll. The gig is up Mr Newy Black Diamond Bogger ball boy.NRL fans whinge like the NRL are victims of some conspiracy.
