Aleague claim equal $$$

Soccer games get around 60,000 - 80,000 people watching nationally on tv

thats as bad as RU.

in comparison the average NRL game on Fox gets 250,000 and AFL around 200,000 or so.

the dominant football codes are well entrenched, which is why soccer chose not to face them head to head.

These hypotheticals are pointless.

We are in the Asian Cup. Therefore, people give a stuff about it.

That's a hypothetical in itself...

We're in the RL world cup, doesn't mean everyone gives a stuff about it... go ask people in Melbourne???

We could be represented in the Badminton World Championships... doesn't mean we give a stuff about it.

Um ok...

1. It's not a claim, it's a FACT. We are not part of Asia. This is Australia. We are our own continent. Asia is a different continent. We may be "part of Asia" for football's sake but that is all.

2. There is limited interest in the Asian Cup and Asian Champions League. Sure, the media will take in an interest in it, hardcore football fans will also, but it's not going to be much a drawcard to general sports fans or aussies in general. Do you know how the Asian Cup rated last year??

3. The clubs are not broke, but they are losing money, as are many NRL clubs. NRL clubs have something to fall back on though, but the A League is costing more than returns at the moment, their salary cap and player spending is way too high for example. Unless clubs and the competition find more money within the next few years we'll probably be seeing clubs die.

I'm not one eyed. You're the one presenting arguments without reasoning.

The crowd average won't surpass the NRL just because you say it will, you're being one eyed in this case.

I'm not saying the A League isn't a success... They've done very well over 3 to 4 years. It's not a thread to Rugby League though.

so how the continents are drawn up is how everything has to be? we are apart of asia for the biggest sport of the world...who is a major trading partner and what is high importantance for the governement? Asia....
it is a major thing we are in it. we are apart of asia FIFA has proven this.

limited interest in it? how much exposure does it give a corporate company?
go check the ratings... but you will need to check the whole of asia for it as its broadcast that wide! how bout check the crowds while your at it!

clubs are not broke? i can bet that nrl clubs will fall broke before the a league clubs.
Where are the a league crying about money? whilst they may have lost some they have genuine income coming in and great financial backers, where is that for nrl?

as to average crowds... what is the nrl average?

I'm not talking economically. I'm talking culture and geography. We're not a part of Asia. Case closed.

People will watch a one off event. I watched it myself but it's not going to be the same every time.

This whole thread is opinions, read through it, most involve no facts at all. Thanks for providing some though, I'll give you credit for that though I disagree with some.

so now it is about culture? gee your drawing an even longer bow now...
your wrong AGAIN. But hey dont let the facts get in the way.

I'm sorry, you've gone off on a tangent here that I feel really doesn't have anything to do with anything.

So, let me get this straight.

You're saying that not everyone cares about Australia being in the Asian Cup nor does everyone care about Australia being in the Rugby League World Cup?

And you're trying to say that when Australia doesn't compete in a major tournament that people aren't going to care as much?

I thought those observations were pretty obvious.

What exactly is the point you're trying to prove here?

so are you saying that nobody watches soccer outside the world cup.

you cant build a domestic sport using the WC as some kind of gimmick to make up for a weak local competition.

the real football code in australia are RL and AFL.

the rest are minor and until they change that, they should stop pretending.

RL is a dominant code is Australia? So dominant is WA,SA,VIC

it has nothing to do with taking them head to head, they are aligned with european dates.

For a competition that's been around for 4 years, I think it's looking in pretty good shape.

Interesting to note that Hyundai are the A-League's naming rights sponsor. Correct me if I'm wrong but Hyundai were once the Bulldog's naming rights sponsor were they not? I wonder - are the Bulldog's still having difficulty securing a naming rights sponsor for next season?
